Depends on the shape. Put one an inch or so away from your cut in the old sheet to fasten in back down. And then an inch in on the new peice . Then for patches I would put one in the center and then halve that again.

So pop's and I have been spending a lot of time working on rifles and not getting to the home stuff, so this had to get done today! :D

Mom asked pop's to make some steel letters and spell this out on either side of the pantry.....then send says to pop's today..."why do you make everything so complicated"....:D

HELLO!....you've been married almost 30 years and your just now figuring this out!!!

Laser cutting letters from 3/8" plate steel, drilling, painting, making a template, measure, measure, measure, paint nails, measure again.....then just one more time.....tack to wall, remove template....hang letters!

Back at my timber building job today

Cut what is essentially a tenon on each post that won't go into a mortise but laps the existing framing on the corner of the deck which will allow me to through bolt the posts to the deck for a positive connection . Got to use my Sorby 2" framing chisel for the first time since I bought it a while back , really liked it .

After cutting the tenons I put the posts in my truck to run them out to the pond to test fit them

Here they are just standing on their own , not cut to length yet but fit confirmed

After this pic I loaded them back into the truck and brought them back to the shop on site there to finish milling them .

You can see here why I wanted to test fit them in place as I had to notch around the existing hold down brackets in the corners of the deck framing to foundation connection .

I think I will prestain them too because I want to limit any potential contamination into the koi pond
