Just installed my 2.5 front coilovers, went to adjust and realized it is missing the top locking ring above the preload ring. Did Fox forget to install it? Am I crazy? BTW how do you
crank these things up? I have the Fox coilover tool but still wouldn't budge.

Well that's retarded if true. REMOVE Entire coilover just to adjust then reinstall??o_O
I'll call Fox tech later and get the run down.

Sub'd to see what they tell you.

It seems like jacking up the truck and removing the load is all that would be needed. How the heck can you know where to set the ring until you install them on your truck with your configuration?

BTW, to the original question, I have a set of 2.5" I got about a month or so ago that are sitting waiting for a few small pieces to install. They have two lock rings, so looks like you're missing the small one. I'd guess you need it otherwise Fox wouldn't put them there. My assumption is it's to spread the force onto more threads now that the bodies are aluminum. No reason to know that for sure, just assuming. It might also just be a backup lock ring.

Okay.... just off the phone with off-road tech @ Fox.
1)The new 2.5 IFP coilovers have only 1 ring for adjustment. No locking ring anymore. The proload ring has the holes for spanner wrench and a allen bolt that pinches it tight to hold it there after adjustment
2)Preload must be taken off the spring in order to turn the adjustment ring. AKA Remove coilover and spring compress or try while bolted in the vehicle. FAIL:frusty::frusty:
BTW. I got 2.5" Right out of the box. 1" from factory(it's a 3rd gen) and 1.5" after lift. Tech said 4 Full roatations will get me another .5"

Off to find a spring compressor....

they told you to spring compress the spring before adjusting preload? Thats odd, you sure they didnt mean let it free hang and adjust down from there with the weight off?

Dang, seriously? The coil over has to be removed to be adjusted? That was a big reason I dropped the coin, so that I didn't have to do much work to fix the squat each time I progress as I add a second battery then bumper and then winch. It's not much different now than just bumping up OME springs each time.

Not completely disassembled, just taking the load off spring. They way he explained it put it in a spring comrpessor, or use one of these to push the spring down.

I'll deal with it.(Had I known going in...would have went different route)and they are now used/installed. Plus, I got them with 22%off @ AutoAnything. Just hope I don't have to make multiple adjustments. Set it and Forget it.

What a PITA having to use spring compressors. I hate those things. Although I wonder how much load has to be taken off, maybe it's not as bad (or dangerous) as actually putting together coil overs. Have to let this digest, but I would have gone a different way if I'd known, too.

Only way is to take tension off the spring. Tech support said if you try and adjust ring without removing tension it can strip the thread on the coilover body.

One of the reasons I went to Icon, as well as the STUPID AS F$*! nitrogen fill setup.

You know, this aluminum body change is a pain but OTOH if they were still steel and rusting we'd be complaining about that, too. :)

You just need to jack the vehicle up off the ground, then spray the threads down with some lube, and use a little elbow grease to adjust the collar. Set the vehicle down and roll it forward and back a few feet to settle the suspension, re-take measurements and then adjust again if needed.

I would suggest a can of the MavCoat. Even the Aluminum can have corrosion issues.

This is the process I expected, but does it jive (warranty-wise would be my main question) with what @mesojdm was told by Fox?
