Hey the ram is a legit mounting system that I personally put through the ringer... I've crashed with the phone in the mount and nothing... Phone didn't even pop out

 

Its pricey, sure... But it is the last one you'll buy... Its lifetime

I'll tell you one secret though... When you first get the mount, pull the rubber feet off the x frame, then a dab of your adhesive of choice (I used superglue but if you go that route, gotta be real fast) then pop the rubber feet back on

All of the boys I know that ride supermoto all use the x mount from ram... With various mounting types, ie handlebar u bolt like mine, zip tied to the bars, wedgebolt in the steering stem, etc

I wonder if the zip tie mount to the ohshit bar would be secure enough?

 

It may wobble a bit but it won't break like the single m6 screw will over time... Maybe it will from UV damage to the zip ties? Maybe if you buy UV stable zip ties it could work... And it would let you mount exactly where you want without drilling holes or using something structurally inferior

The one thing I would be aware of if mounting in plain sight is getting the ever so "itchy" feeling to use the phone in any way shape or form.. Easy to get caught for using it even if it is to press the screen even using navigation.

 

But does the law not have provisions for use in a mount?

 

I was under the impression you couldn't even be touching your phone.. Had a neighbor who got a cell phone ticket for reaching over and pressing phone which was lying in the passengers seat.. don't know what ended up of the ticket, I think she just paid it..
