Pick based on your needs. Both good brands, but yes, most people will tell you Toyo4Life and to eat a bag of dicks for even asking...

The pilot is a crossover with rear independent suspension and less ground clearance, the 4Runner is a truck. So the pilot is going to be more comfortable.

    I would go 4Runner.

Two different vehicles (obviously). The T4R is a body on frame, it's durable and rugged (with excellent reliablity scores)...it kinda drives like a truck and does not have perfect crash scores and the latest and greatest safety tech. The Pilot (people can tell you both are great but), like other Hondas, has been slipping the reliability scores. They are a unibody platform with more space tho. The pilot also offers some, IMO, great extra safety tech not yet available on the T4R.

Which trim levels are you looking at on each?

That's all that counts man...if she's buying (even if you're paying) and she wants the Pilot, it would be a done deal in my book.

I've driven both Honda and Acura products with the sensing/watch package. I like it, and it's more advanced than the current Toyota offeing (in the Highlander at least since we're talking SUVs and not offered on the T4R). It's a nice, added, option in terms of safety IMO. People will argue they want to control their cars not some box somewhere doing it for them but, the fact is we are all human and most the cars on the road are driven by human (for now) so shit does & will continue to go south on occasion. I like this package (especially on the Lexus/Acura/Honda products) as the added back up to my own skill (or lack of). Other manufactures offer it but, they are either really expensive or the vehicle itself is not a reliable (or both).

We have had a 2011 Pilot (haaaaaard 70k miles with no issues) and currently a 2013 Pilot (40k haaaaard miles no issues) both are EX-L equipped Nav,Leather,3rd row yaddayadda....and absolutely love them! by far hands down have been the most dependable vehicles we have owned in a while. When I say no issues, I mean we only have done oil, filters, brakes and tires. Never have they needed anything except general maintenance, and they have been driven really hard through multiple states and environments.

4Runner has amazing resale value - rear leg room in all 3rd row vehicles is pretty shitty unless you're tiny like me. The 2017 Highlander is going to be refreshed, if you can wait until fall. The Lexus RX engine will be making its way in it (8 speed auto) They will also introduce an SE model. The pilot is nice, but in Canada anyway imo, they priced it a bit higher vs Highlander and you don't seem to get a whole much more for it. I also prefer the Toyota language with their interiors.

As these questions always lead to, you ultimately just need to sit and drive em and then blindfold yourself and choose. Both reputable vehicles.

the honda motors are good to 100,000 miles, after that roll the dice, not many make it to 150,000, and they are crazy expensive to replace if you can find one.

toyotas 4.0 are solid, reliable to 200,000 and well beyond if maintained regularly
