I'm new to Tacoma World. I've been stalking posts for a while but haven't joined until now. Last month I had my Tacoma lifted with Bilstien 5100's, Icon Add-a-leaf and 265/70R17 Duratracs and 17x8.5 Fuel Trophy wheels. Unfortunately, I'm having a hell of a time with wheel wobble between 50-60mph. I've taken it back to 4wheelparts on Oahu (shop that installed the lift) 3 times in a month and all they do is rebalance the rims and tires and send us on our way again. They keep claiming the weights keep coming off. This last time we left it was horrible the second we got on the interstate. I don't even think they test drove it. Anyone else had these issues? Any possible solutions? What the hell should I do with 4 Wheel Parts? I'm starting to get real pissed with them as it's an hour drive each way to their shop.

I've never had an issue with balancing the Duratrac's (3 sets so far) but they take quite a bit of weight (at least on my current set of wheels). If the weights keep coming off, tell them to clean the damn wheel where they're going to stick the weights...if that fails, maybe fork out the cash to get somebody different to try that also may be closer to you that 4WP. :notsure:

That's a great looking truck and I'm sorry to hear about your vibe issues.
I'm sure atleast that most people will agree and say that 4 wheel parts is nice for accessories but NEVER let them work on your truck.
Is there not anywhere else you can take it?

Not many choices on Oahu. I built a civic while I lived there during my navy enlistment and had the choice of 2 shops.

Thanks for the reply. You'd think they'd know to clean the damn wheel. Haha. I guess it never hurts to make the suggestion. Unfortunately, there isn't anyone closer than 4WP. There's only one other 4x4 shop on island. Maybe I'll take it to them if 4WP can't get there act together. :frusty:

Yep, it's either 4WP or Maui Off Road for anything to do with 4x4's. Island life... the struggle is real. :frusty:

Thanks. I love the look and stance, just wish it would ride right.

It's one of two 4x4 shops on island. Unfortunately, there's not much to choose from. I'd think 4WP would know what's up though because they are always slammed and they're always lifting Tacoma's here. Tacoma's are everywhere in Hawaii.

No other tire shops on the island that can balance a 265/70/17? If so, try one of them instead of a 4x4 shop?

Duratracs are notoriously hard to balance. I had some on my 1st gen and was in the tire shop every few weeks getting rebalanced. I eventually ditched the tires long before their tread wore down just because the balancing issues were driving me nuts. Try a shop that offers road force balancing, it should help some. and if you are losing weights are they the sticky weights that go on the inside of the rim or the ones that pinch onto the edge? Try sticky weights, might have better luck with them

I've had nothing but problems balancing these stupid duratracs also. I heard airing em up to like 40psi helps and once they're worn a little they balance.
    Beautiful truck tho

    **UPDATE**

I had a regularly scheduled maintenance appointment with Servco Toyota today. I asked them to look into the death wobble. Luckily, they had road force balancing. They determined the tires weren't anywhere close to being balanced. One was off by 4.5 oz and the other 9 oz. No weights had fallen off. When Servco returned it to me it drove like a Cadillac. I took the paperwork to 4WP and had about an hour conversation with them. They admitted something wasn't right and were looking into the issue. They were very nice, apologetic and reimbursed me for the cost of the balancing at Servco. It's unfortunate that I wasted 12 hours of my life and 4 trips to get tires balanced but I'm glad it's comfortable to drive again. Thank-you to everyone that commented and left advice.

Thanks for the comment. It's super hard to get in a shop within a week's notice here. Everyone is several weeks out. Our truck is going on a boat next week to get shipped back to the mainland. Luckily, we had an appointment scheduled with our Toyota dealership for routine maintenance and I asked them to look into it. They were nice enough to do so and fixed the issue.

Yep! Truck ships next week and we fly out the first of May. We're picking the truck up in LA and driving the rest of the way. Looking forward to a good road trip. It's been a while. You can drive around Oahu in 3 hours. :yay: Where in Montana are you located?

Im debating on Duratracs on my 13' Taco Sport, it rides like a dream now and i am holding out because I don't want to jeopardize the ride? however id like a beefy more aggressive look. It would really suck, to get them and then have a Death Wobble happen to me. Another reason I don't want to fuck with Lifts and suspensions, just want some Bad ass Tires.
