The Last of the Good Ones

That's what I heard at the dealer today. I took my '14 DCLB Sport in for an oil change. While I was there a salesperson was showing me the new Taco. I didn't give it much thought; I was really just killing time. But then as I was waiting in the service tunnel for my truck, as it was pulling up (and I was thinking damn that truck is nice), I overheard that salesperson say "There goes the last of the good ones".

So WTH does that mean? Does she know something bad about Gen3's that I should? Mine is paid off in November, and I was kind of not yet into the redesign, and her statement kind of has me wondering here. I don't think she knew I was there because she was talking to one of the other porters.

Puzzling.

Maybe they just don't like the styling or whatever, there is nothing wrong with Gen 3 IMO, underneath a lot is the same.

 

Nothing. My experience has been that car salesmen don't know shit about the vehicles they sell. Couldn't tell a good one from a bad one if their lives depended on it.

 

Im with you on that the previous owner of mine added trd stickers and the dealer was saying it was a real trd until i laid down the facts. They don't know squat about tacoma they had one with a 3 inch body lift and the gentleman was telling me it was a couple thousand dollar lift.......

And I'm also with the op on not totally sold on the new design I had the opportunity to get a 2016 and the cockpit didn't feel right so I went with a 2nd gen again and I didn't look back.

 

A sales person will tell you what ever you want to here.

 

and they give you the blank stare when they realize you know a little to much about tacoma and then they just kind of shut up lol.

They had mine listed on the window as a trd OR and when I brought it up there story started to change. False advertisement, supposedly the dealer got ripped off and paid the guy for a trd OR but got just an sr5 I didn't buy the story though.

 

The dealer rep who did the "once over" on the truck with me before I drove off told me the RR LOCK button locked the rear wheels to keep them from moving.

He was a kid...I didn't say anything.

 

Ya I usually will keep my mouth shut and just let them ramble but If they try and make it a selling point to drive up price like mine with the "TRD OR package" I will tell them the facts.
Got it well below what they were asking but it sad to know that someone less educated on Tacoma's could of potentially paid way to much.

 

True, your situation was totally different. Mine didn't have any chance of affecting price, just comical. Glad you were up to speed and didn't get screwed on that deal.

 

So she wanted me to hear that my truck was better than a gen3? That wouldn't help her one bit. But yes, car sales people are the generally ethically challenged.
