Gents I'm planning a pretty big trip from June 15- July 15 (roughly).
Looking for places to go along the way and would love input from the locals and even maybe a meet up and a trail buddy.

Starting out in Fort Worth Texas and heading to Port Angeles Washington, then all the way across to Madison Wisconsin and the straight back down to Texas.

Here is a tentative route on a map.
Marked on the map are Silverton Co and Moab Utah. Mostly to control how MapQuest did the route but also as areas of interest to hit the trails.

Im going to do trails all along the way. 2-3 days roughly in each state. I would like to do trails that are point to point in the general direction of travel and that also have overnight camping.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm doing roughly the same trip June 5 - June 25th, how crazy is that?!

I got this book http://www.amazon.com/Colorado-Backroads-4-Wheel-Drive-Trails-Edition/dp/1934838047 and since you wanna hit the Silverton area you might be in for a surprise. Those trails are so high up that they normally aren't clear until mid July. Thats the reason I'm head to the Colorado Springs area, some good trails around there that open early June. If you'll also notice I'm taking a dirt road into Moab.

Thats is funny. I just cut out Tennessee and shifted my dates to the right about a week right before i posted on here. Would have been the same trip. haha

The snow conditions are definitely something Im looking into as well. Rough planning right now. I like Colorado springs area. The drive from Estes Park to Grand Lake is also nice. I was there last September so I wanted to avoid it if possible, however I didn't do any trails in those areas.

You doing any overnight trails or moving to a nearby camp ground?
What trails are you looking at doing? You rolling solo? I am so Im not doing anything to aggressive that I can't self recover.

I Like that dirty road into Moab. The point to point stuff is awesome.

You will not be disappointed in Ouray/Silverton/Telluride area. Black Bear pass (dates might not work for this with Snow) is bucket list and it looks like you will be on western boundary of Alpine loop.

When you guys are a week out post up here, we have people everywhere in summer.

For Utah and Washington there are legs of the Backcountry Discovery Route that head in your direction. They're not, "trails" exactly but rather a way of getting you off the pavement and into areas no often seen from said pavement. I'd HIGHLY recommend taking the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR) from Stevenson, WA up to Naches which is a very popular wheeling spot you could probably lure some locals to, then hit Highway 12 west to I5 and get to Port Angeles from there. Or, if you like what you're seeing you can continue up the WABDR to Ellensburg which puts you out in the desert with some great views of all the state's high peaks, and the Yakima Valley. From Ellensburg you can go West on I90 over Snoqualmie pass to Seattle.

I've never done the Utah route, but I am sure it's awesome.

For reference: http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/ click on "The Routes" and check the Interactive Maps.

The section of Oregon you'll be passing through is way out there. There's a forum user that lives out there, but I don't remember his name on TacomaWorld... He drives a matte black long travel second gen with all sorts of goodies. Maybe someone can tag him.

    That's the fella.

I-84 (which looks like where you're headed) will pass straight through Pendleton. I know he knows the area very well.

I suggest a reroute through South Dakota & Wyoming, then up to Montana rather than ND->Eastern Montana. East River SD doesn't have much to show, but the western half and Wyoming have a bit more to offer than North Dakota. Unless you have obligations in MN/ND, then disregard lol

*Edit: I just noticed you are going from west to east. Regardless, I'd still try to hit SD/WY

Ya Im going west to east . I have no set route on the northern leg. That was just a quick MapQuest route so I could post up and jet input. Only hard stops are Port Angeles Washington, which might get changed to St Maries Idaho for family, and then Madison Wisconsin for the 4th of July with a buddy.

    Rough plan so far:
Ill be taking the hardball all the way to Colorado Springs. Hitting the Rampart Range Road and a few trail spurs.
Head to Deckers Co and jump on Goose Creek to get towards Johnson Village.
Hope to be able to hit Tincup Pass to Carbonate Hill and get to Taylor Park Reservoir. (snow concern)
Either a north or south loop to get to the 124 just south of Grand Junction and take Sheep Creek trail into Moab Utah

Just looking to see if there are any must see spots or trails.
Planning to go from Washington to Wisconsin. Straits through/point to point trails in the general direction of travel. Honestly haven't gotten that far in the planning yet so I can't help narrow that down any more.

Looks like your route will take you Missoula - Butte - Bozeman - Billings - Miles City - Glendive?

Outside of Missoula there is a ghost town named Garnet, kind of a cool place. East of Missoula exit the interstate at Bonner, take Highway 200 about 23 miles and you'll see a sign on the right for Garnet. The road eventually continues through and rejoins the interstate but there are a lot of side roads and its easy to get lost. Mostly private property and mining claims back here, not a lot of camping. http://www.garnetghosttown.net/
If you want to really stray from the beaten path also east of Missoula at the Rock Creek exit 126 is Rock Creek Rd. Its a single lane dirt road about 40 miles long. Lots of camping and fishing opportunities to be had. You would eventually pop out near Philipsburg, MT (brewery and candy store worth a visit) and then to Anaconda, and back to the interstate. http://www.bigskyfishing.com/scenic-drives/rock-creek-road.php
If you'd rather stick closer to the interstate there is Beavertail Hill State park and campground just off the interstate.
Grant Kohrs Ranch in Deer Lodge will be on your route. Cool place where they still do all of the work the old fashioned way with horse drawn equipment. They have demonstrations too for blacksmiths, etc https://www.nps.gov/grko/index.htm
Mining Museum in Butte about the copper industry.
Lewis and Clark Caverns between Cardwell and Three Forks off Highway 2. Camping here also http://stateparks.mt.gov/lewis-and-clark-caverns/
Bozeman - lots of camping down Highway 191 south of town, maybe take a detour through Yellowstone? If you're here midweek check out Hyalite Canyon south of town also. Lots of camping but usually really busy.
Big Timber - south of town along highway 289 is Natural Bridge Falls. Really cool area. The road is paved to the falls then turns to dirt for another 20+ miles. Lots of camping back here http://www.visitmt.com/listings/general/national-forest-day-area/natural-bridge-falls.html
Billings....meh. Big town, lots of people, traffic, and oil refineries
Glendive - Makoshika State park http://stateparks.mt.gov/makoshika/

That covers the major points of interest along the way, should give you plenty to do and see.
