    What's up guys,

My girlfriend and I are looking to head out to Colorado in August. We are looking for places to camp that offer a lot of activities (hiking, biking, possibly 4x4). We know about the Rocky Mountain National Park but we were wondering if you all had any advice on any other locations that would be good to visit/stay. Thanks!

What part of CO are you going to be in? there are far too many areas that will have all of that to do though. one place you can check out is traildamage.com to see some of the wheeling parts, so long as it is national forest you can camp there. there are thousands of hiking trails around as well.

Honestly... hard to pick a bad place in Colorado. the Teluride/Oray area is awesome for camping, hiking, sight seeing, etc.

    but to help us out...
How long are you going to be here
Where are you staying (ie are you visiting family in Denver and want to use that as your "home")
How capable is your truck? there are tons of places stock Subaru's can get to, but there are some nice places you might need 4wd, lift, etc

If your unfamiliar with CO. I would suggest the Funtreks Series of books. They have an awesome one that I'll link below. I have the 2nd edition they now have a 3rd edition. It covers trails, with useful stuff like Photo stops, Camps Spots, mines, atv's usage, hiking, Biking, Waterfalls and all sorts of great stuff.

We are going to be in Denver for 2 nights for a wedding. We are then headed to one of the campgrounds within the Rocky Mountain National Park for 2 or 3 nights. That leaves us with 4 nights to look elsewhere (preferably closer to the Park). The truck is a 4x4 with a 3 inch lift. Not looking for anything too serious, just somewhere to explore. I have purchased a DeLorme map for Colorado and I'll check out the Funtrek series as well.

Silverton & Ouray are great towns. Silverton has an old narrow gauge railroad that you can ride to Durango and back it's really fun. If you like that sort of stuff. The Towns themselves are pretty cool too. Good old Little towns.

    Lifted, Armored, needs more lights.
Alpine Loop (Lake City- Silverton/Ouray/Telluride), you can't miss the San Juan range if your coming to Colorado (Think SW region of State)

Also, check back in when you get closer, some of us might be able to meet up, show you some trails, spots to camp, or just share a beer and slice of pizza

Alpine Loop is my backyard, if you have any questions closer to the time of your trip, just PM me. Climbed and skied part of the Loop today.
