Just found this site. I'm the proud owner of a 95 Tacoma California Edition that just rolled over three hundred and thirty thousand miles. The engine/driveline has never had an issue other than u-joint replacements.
Its not a street queen either. She has spent most of her life as a working farm truck in red gumbo mud and snow drift duty.
I'm excited to get into the forums and visit.

When I found it at the dealership, it belonged to the owner. I saw it parked out back and asked if it was for sale. Salesman said it belonged to the owner. I replied, "he's a car salesman, right?" So we went back in and he left for a bit. Came back and said it was for sale and he would have to take the golf clubs out of the back before the test drive.
Drove it, loved it, and bought it.
We asked about the California thing. I have no back up link to justify what we were told, but the sales guy said that there were 50 built for the new gen that started in 95. The top dealer in each state got one as a reward, and that model was used in the national ad campaign. I do know that's true. We saw it in magazines.
Basically it was a special striping package down the side, and an enhanced stereo system. Looks like a green lightning bolt down the side. Since I've never seen another on the road with that striping package, it leads street cred's to the story I guess.
No matter what, its been one heck of a truck.
I have a 16 Tundra 4X4 with every bell and whistle on it, on order as we speak, but I'm not getting rid of this Taco. When the SHTF, I'll be heading out in the Tacoma.
