Pioneer AVH-4200NEX

BLUF: 5/5 Stars; best bang for your buck!

This Pioneer head unit is an outstanding piece of hardware for the price. This is Pioneer's entry-level NEX head unit and it delivers. 7" Touchscreen Display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 2 x USB ports, Bluetooth, CD/DVD Player, HD Radio, HDMI, Sirius XM-ready, SIM Card reader, etc...

The Good: affordable upgrade ($700 for the unit itself; $1000 after all the additional wires, new faceplate, and install). The faceplate and head unit look like OEM equipment only better (gloss charcoal matched the factory piano black color perfectly). Apple Carplay works flawlessly (I imagine Android Auto does as well). Too many inputs to list. Pretty 480x800 display. Navigation capable if you want to spend a few hundred more bucks. Able to add additional monitors and have separate things going on each (i.e. DVD in the back, Apple Carplay in the front).

The Bad: have to buy additional wires to make full use of all the inputs. Not a huge fan of how the HDMI is only a repeater (i.e. you can't use the touch screen on the display; you have to use your phone). I don't use half of the inputs, but I like having the option to do so.

The Ugly: nothing that I can think of. If you have a real powerful sound system, there are additional parts you have to buy so you don't fry the head unit (I didn't run into this problem).

Maestro ADS-MRR and HRN-RR-TO1. Guessing you used the same?

Installing in a 2011 with JBL. My concerns are how to tap into the existing microphone and rear view camera. Not sure the harness is geared up for that. Did you do a Video bypass?

 

I paid the place I bought it from to install it for me. I'm not sure what the

maestro ADS-MRR and HRN-RR-TO1 are. They ran the microphone that came with the kit up the window behind the visor. I can't see the wire, but I can see the microphone. I didn't have them wire the rear view camera because mine already displays in the mirror and I didn't want to mess anything up. I don't know how to disable the parking brake sensor. I'll post pics shortly.

 

Finished the install. The worst part of the whole thing was getting the new Stereo back in with all the extra wires that come with the

ADS-MRR and HRN-RR-T01. Love being able to see ODB2 info!

 

Which panel kit is that? Looks good!

 

I'll have to call the shop that installed it to find out. I'm a tech-savy guy, but I wanted a professional to do this one haha.

I had all of my wires routed through the glovebox.

 

were you able to get the factory Mic working with the Maestro?? Im debating on upgrading my factory head unit as well, and was wondering the same thing
