I got about $12k for my '06 with 175,000 on it when I traded it a couple of years ago, but times have changed, I only paid $24k for it when I bought it. Keep in mind if trading it at a dealer, you only pay sales tax on the difference of the two prices, at least here in PA. I'd say make sure that your dealer is offering an honest price and consider the tax too.

When it comes to a fairly valuable vehicle, some times it's hard to get a buyer that can come up with the money. Selling outright is always the best way to bring all the money, but it can't always easily be done.

That's what I'm thinking I might do. Just don't know what to ask for it. 2015 4X4 TRD Sport 25,579 for mileage. 3 inch lift consisting of OME 887's on 5100's with a rear ICON 1.5 Progressive AAL with rear ICON 2.0 Shocks. Camburg Ball Joint UCA's. Clazzio leather seat covers, complete audio update. 5 TRD Fake Beadlock wheels with 5 Cooper ST/MAXX 265/75/16 tires. OEM Roof Rack, Powdercoated Nfab Predator steps. Tonneau Cover, updated Homelink studio dim mirror. I know mods don't do much for trade in, but private I might do better.

Yeh, mods don't bring much value at the dealer, they are too owner specific. As a friend was told about listing his house, "you over improved" lol.

dealer offered me 7500 for my regular cab put it on craigslist and sold the next day for 9500. Every time I've sold a tacoma private party it sold fast and was always above blue book.

Cory02taco, sounds you were dealing with the typical scumbag salesman.... And I say that with peace and love having many of those scumbag salesmen in my own family. That book is for jamming up his ass to keep the seller happy.....lol.

Exactly. If you trade, you're better off stripping it out and trading it in stock. You could argue that even selling it privately, unless you find someone who wants your exact truck.

Last April while doing the frame recall I had them assess my truck for a trade-in.
My 05 DCLB TRD Sport with ~180K km(120K mi)- they offered $12K.

The same truck with another 10K km was on their lot for $19K..

I took my last car to Carmax to get a quote before going to the dealership the next day, Carmax told me $8500...I brought the printout of the quote to the dealership and they still only offered me 7, bastards. I eventually got them up closer to 8.

When you owe on a vehicle the remaining amount that you owe is factored into the overall cost to finance the vehicle you're purchasing...I don't think it has any effect on what they offer you for your trade-in. At least it shouldn't. I wouldn't tell them that you owe anything on it until after they give you a trade-in quote that you both agree on.
