I have a 2011 Prerunner that is under the recall for the rear springs. It has been a year since I got my safety recall notice (interim) so I decided to call Toyota on Friday.

Long story short, they said they are still gathering the parts to act on the recall. I said that this was unacceptable and I told them I was going to file a complaint with NHTSTA. Then they asked me for my VIN and mileage. Asked if I was having any problems. Gave me a case number.

I think that if you are having problems they will work on your truck, otherwise delay, delay, delay. I am not qualified to check the springs myself, so I guess I should take
it to the dealer and have them check it.

I am disappointed in the lack of progress on this recall.

Anybody have a positive result from this recall ?

The recall is to replace springs that both have failed and could fail, right?

So if you don't know if they have failed, I'd guess they haven't. Failures, rightfully, should go first. Then the preventative measure work.

I agree it would seem they could easily move things along a bit faster. I mean if they have enough money to buy GM as everyone claims they do, you'd think a little pressure on your spring supplier would get good results.

OTOH, you know you are on the list and not completely overlooked, so a combo of patience and the periodic follow up phone call would be a good thing.

The recall is for leaf springs that could break and contact the gas tank causing risks of fire. I was just wondering too what is going with this recall.

With winter coming, I travel a lot with my sled in the back and the leafs are getting really weak. I really doubt they will change the leafs themselves but I'd rather by sure before replacing them.

Did you ever get any news from Toyota?

I contacted Toyota and they just said they were still working on the solution. Then I called my local Toyota dealer and they said
they would inspect my truck and tell me if I had any signs of the problem. Then last week I got a second recall notice from Toyota
saying (you guessed it) they are working on the problem. A year after the first notice.

I am going to bring my truck down in the next couple of weeks to have them inspect it....not holding my breath on any action
in the near future from Toyota...

    Just lip service, no action

Anyone who's getting their frames replaced will get new leaf springs.
Sooo.... I'm guessing they have not opened this up to the general public yet because the springs are going to the frame replacement candidates first (and/or those with broken springs).
There's probably not enough leaf springs for everyone.

Just got my notice in the mail today that they will replace my rear springs. Three "Interim" notices over 2+ years and now this "Remedy"
notice that says just go to the local dealer and they will replace my springs. Guess I will go get in line.

I will be glad to get this fix done.
