Anyone else around Cbus have a Midlands CB? I won this set of shoulder mics and I am going to try them out, but there are two. I only need one. I do retain dibs on whichever one works if only one does lol. Basically with this you can leave the already small unit attached to the dash ect, and just have to pick up this little guy.

I've had the Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-Way Radio sitting in my Amazon shopping cart for about a month... Might need to pull the trigger. http://www.amazon.com/Midland-75-82...rue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I briefly considered it, but then I looked at the money and work that goes into running it. I am only getting that little CB because I likely will only using wheeling. Much less of an investment for getting used once every 6 months or so.

Definitely an investment.. I spent $500+ on everything.. Very cool though. I planned to only use it wheeling but I've enjoyed listening to random chatter these past two days and I think I'll use this frequently to BS now.

You don't have to initially invest a lot in to ham to get started. $35 baofeng to play with, then if you like it upgrade to a nicer mobile or handheld (HT). There are a lot of seasoned hams that still use cheap chinese radios. It is a cool hobby, and is used during civil disasters, weather emergencies, where ther is no cell service, lots of applications. And the more guys that use it, the more fun it is. If there isn't allready, there could be an Ohio, or a regional 4x4 Ham club, have monthly nets where we all talk. Lots of possibilities, and communication quality is so much better than cb.

Here is a basic article on ham and its application for our intended use at expedituon portal.

    http://expeditionportal.com/practical-ham/

Here is another article, that explains its use with offroading.

    http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/ham-1.htm

But there is a whole lot more available for its use, its at least worth looking in to.

I've been thinking about a 2m mobile setup, a lot of the areas I've been exploring are very remote and there is no cell service and no residences for tens of miles. I think a 2m should be able to get out if I need help.
