i have one and basically i can work in a lab or apply for med school and after scoring a 31 on my mcat and working for a surgeon there lives suck so i didnt want medical school. With a biology major from a state university and a 3.85gpa cumulitive and teaching labs and doing research i was told on anything i applied for that they were hiring only people with that specific degree. My post has plenty of warrant and ur wife may be an exception which is good for her. I have tons of class mates that can do even less with a psych degree than me. Why would anyone hire a bio major for a foresty position, teaching, nursing, or anything related to that broad major when there is specific majors for that field. Which ensures them interested applicants in the job as well as less training required usually. Just my .02 cents but thas why im back in nursing anyways and can work 3 days a week and easily make 70k in my area.

We're derailing the thread, but I don't understand what you're saying in the first part? I was saying don't listen to people who tell you one degree or another are worthless across the board. I found success with my "broad and worthless" bio degree as have several others who posted. I lived in a place where those broad worthless degrees were valued as every company I worked for required a BS in a science field to be considered. People grow and get advanced degrees as supplements to their existing ones. Now I'm getting another broad and worthless masters because that's what it takes to break into the positions that I now want based on my post undergrad experience and the career trajectory I would like. If you chose your degree because of lack of info about what you needed then you can't say the degree is worthless for everybody.

You really have no idea what LEO industry values in a degree - psych, bio, crim justice, underwater basket weaving, etc. Perhaps just a degree is all he needs to break into the profession. In that case,OP, find something you're interested in and check the box. My recommendation is to contact some local/federal agencies and see what they are hiring. Then figure out what a reasonable path toward that would be and go from there. They'll know what the basis for their hiring is and they'll tell you.

i had the same recommendation for him about talkign with people in the career he is in. But a generalization of not listening to others that have taken the steps in life he hasnt and are providing there advice is wise to look at. But to generalize that all info is wrong due to being in the local of a corner of the US is as bad as me assuming you for lucky with your job or settled for something you thought was worth is.I just gave my opinion of what I have seen as I have done what he has not. But i do understand my region is different than his and others, but thats why a form is nice as he can get opinions from others.

ASU also offers this "Public Service and Public Policy (Emergency Management and Homeland Security), BS" and it sounds interesting.
Probably gonna contact them monday and also talk to some locals and see what they think about it.

To answer your original question; stay away from "for profit online schools". They typically do not have your best interest in mind and only your money.

Also if ASU is not in your state you will be charged out of state tuition or as they put it "online classes". I'd find a online degree in your state so you can save that money. Majority of brick and motar schools in your state have online programs. I know about every school in my state has a variety of online classes and degree plans.

One can never have too many light bars.
OP check your local community colleges to see if they offer online courses. Most of them do these days. When I was working on my undergrad degree at ASU I would take classes at Rio Salado which was the online school for the local community college system. Make sure wherever you go is accredited and all the credits are transferable. Stay away from for-profit schools such as University of Phoenix and Devry as not only are they over priced but they're usually not looked at with the same esteem as a regular college.

I may be able to attend an actual university now, I had a contract signed with an employer that would have me work full time but I was just told today that I wouldn't be needed until 2017 or later, so I can do quite a bit in that time and i may just turn down the job.

Went to the community college and I'm almost finished with the enrollment process, spring of next year I should graduate with my associates degree in welding and then start working on the classes I need for my Bachelors.
