I just received my 2016 TRD Sport Tacoma yesterday and I like it. However there are a few issues with it:
    1. The 24" 3M H/F/M (hood/fender/mirror) protection I opted for was only 17" long, measured from front of hood. I have a feeling that they gave me the 18" version.

    2. The bug deflector doesn't work. I have bugs all over my windshield after driving it for one hour. This deflector that came with the truck does not have a lip on it. I wonder if that's why it's not working.

Does anyone know anything about the 3M paint protection or the hood/bug deflector?

Here's a pic of what my deflector looks like:

and here is a pic of one that seems to have a lip on it, thus making it effective:

    Thanks,
    Marlen

Welcome and honestly bug deflectors don't do shit but most of the time screw up the paint. I thought these went away in the 90's I guess not.

"bug deflectors" are mainly for looks. you can't expect them to do much.

They actually work well for bugs.

They don't work as well for rocks.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

Apparently the full-wrap version is aftermarket:

Never had a bug deflector that worked worth a crap on my previous vehicles. I guess it keeps some bugs off the hood but my windshield was always covered. I decided not to even bother with one this time around.

My last deflector was on a 98 Chevy, so I guess I really don't know about the modern versions.

It worked great though, at the time.

I really never considered that a bug deflector kept bugs off the windshield. More for protection of the leading edge of the hood I always thought.

I bought an avs deflector to use as a rock guard from chips because it was cheaper than the film and I had a rock chip within the first month.
Now I have a small pebble lodged into the plastic hood protector, so I guess its doing its job, coulda been anothe chip in the paint!
