I have mentioned this simple carpeting procedure I use to numerous members who didn't want to cut their plastic bins (new bins cost over $800.00 through Toyota!) in order to get a nice finished look on the back wall but couldn't find my pictures so one of the members sent me these. A couple of tips are to use "non backed" carpet so you can stretch it slightly to fit smoothly around the peaks/valleys and be sure you carpet under the plastic trim on the sides so metal cannot be seen from an angle when using my short version enclosure as shown. It looks great IMO when it is carpeted the same color as the enclosure/amp rack however if you use the spray on bedliner finish on the enclosure you could always use black carpet on the back wall. Nice thing is if you want to bring it back to stock you can just snap your bins back in right over the carpet.

Could you tell me what kind of carpet that is? Link where to get it? And how do you secure it? Do you use that adhesive spray?

Its a non backed standard shade of grey general purpose carpet. Most fabric shops sell by the Sq yard. Sort of like a heavy felt to the touch. 3m makes a spray glue you can get at Lowes (it has a scent that stays awhile, some people have got in and said ahh.. that new car smell). Tape for over spray and go from top down. Get almost over the cab hooks and slot the middle out enough to get over hook then slot again both sides down so flap goes thru middle the fabric has some stretch and is forgiving.

That is really the direction I want to go. I just installed this into my truck but I haven't wired it yet and I am somewhat worried about the bass response from the sub. I think this style is next if I don't like this too much.

Nice. Yeah, those bins are something else. Horrible design for any purpose.

Thank for the details Scott! You can also get non backed carpet at auto upholstery shops in a variety of colors.

Yeah. It's a Kenwood Excelon KFC-1000XW. I was a little worried about the quality but now that it is in I don't have a single complaint. It hits ways harder than I would ever need in this small cab.

I built it and the rack for the amp and line controller. That box took a lot of shoehorning to get it to fit but I am very happy with the result!

@Mr Marv thanks for referencing this thread. Having never done this before, please excuse any silly questions:)

    1. I talked to you earlier today and I will follow your advice to NOT spray inside the cabin if possible.
    2. As you know I am using RAAM audio sound deadening with BXT and Ensolite. I would like to use Ensolite as much as possible but will it adhere to fabric even with a double dose of 3M spray?
    3. When applying fabric to back wall do you recommend to cut it to workable size pieces with seams that would be hidden by corners at horizontal bars?

    Thanks, Dave

I think I have progressive pics on my thread. I started by using painters tape and tapped the back window and everything around it that I didn't want glue to get on. I started ato the top with an oversized piece of carpet and did small areas all the way down while I was stretching it into place. It can be done inside but you want to cover everything you don't want spray glue on.

You are everywhere man! Thanks Jeremy! Wonder how it will go over the foam Ensolite product...

I prefer not to spray contact cement inside clients vehicles as just one gust of wind can wreak havoc (don't ask how I know!) however you can do as Jeremy did and tape off EVERYTHING you don't want glue on. Also, I carpet right over the deadener using the double dose procedure I mentioned which holds well however I have not tried it over the Ensolite so I wouldn't know how well it would hold.

Once again Jeremy that is an absolutely beautiful job you did there!

I agree. I wouldn't have done it if it was windy. I was super careful. I didn't want that stuff anywhere else other than where it needed to go.

Thanks Marv. Compliments from you make me feel like I'm a rock star at this now. Haha
