I have a 2015 and they do suck from factory. I'm upgrading my whole system in a few weeks. I have done my other tacomas in the past.

Start with the speakers. The factory ones are crap. Choose a quality set (JL Audio, etc.) that will be good for future upgrades should you decide to add amps, signal processors, subs, etc.

Frankly, I left the stock h/u in mine, added a powered sub, ditched the factory speakers, and added an Alpine amp and JL's. Huge upgrade with minimal $$$.

I plan on keeping my headunit and going with Hybrid audio component speakers in the front doors and same brand in the rears for fill in. JL audio 4 channel amp with a 10 inch sub with a Kicker amp. Sound deadening everything.

Did it myself. Piece of cake really, just remove the door panels, disconnect and remove the stock speakers, and install the new ones. Depending on the speaker size that you decide to go with, you might need to install adapter plates for them which you can easily find online or make your own. Probably a write-up somewhere here.

also, SAT radio is really terrible quality ....from 40-60kbps for music.

320kbps is nearly CD quality. HD FM radio [96-144kbps] is better than SAT.
