Good point. Let us know if the sound deadener helps out

Thanks for sharing this video I just ordered one on Amazon it sounds kinda loud but I don't mind it's more convenient than using a key to open it all the time

After using it for awhile now it really doesn't bother me. I really like not having to manually lock / unlock the tailgate so a little noise is easy to get over

Did power tailgate lock and bed LED lights today. Made all the connections at driver side panel using posi-tap. Lock works on double click. LED lights work with the utility light above bed. Bed LED lights come on when I unlock tailgate and off when I lock it. The noise isn't bad at all.

Vinny, Those lights are sweet. I did the power tailgate lock a couple months ago.......BUT I would love to have LED in bed lights that come on when the bed-light is turned on. Would you describe how/which wires you tapped for the bed-light. Also, which LED lights did you use in the bed? Thank you for any help.

This is the update directions LED Bed Lights 00016-34089 for 2016 Tacoma. You can find them on Ebay or google it. MAKE sure the template is to the right scale. Measure the 1 inch scale on the template (double check measurement from the top hole to bottom hole should be about 3.5 inches). Disconnect the negative lead on your battery. I didn't and the horn went off when I went to push the IE1 connector back in. Hope this helps.

These instructions worked the best. Drivers side black and blue wires did the trick

I guess I'm the first Access cab to install a Pop n Lock; my black connector doesn't have the red and green wires since there is no locking rear door. I found the red and light green in a different connector in the passenger footwell and used those (after confirming them with a multimeter of course). I circled the wires on a picture I borrowed from Arcrider.

I wired green to green and blue to red, and ended up having to swap the bullet connectors in the tailgate. So far it's been working like a charm, and while it's audible, it isn't as loud as everyone makes it out to be!

So guys, what part of all of the prices in the tailgate is it that you think is causing the loud clunking? Is it the inside mechanism of the actuator itself? Is it the mechanical parts hitting each otherness against the inside of the tailgate itself?

Someone stated something like, because the actuator was connected/attached/bolted to the tailgate that it resonated throughout the metal of the tailgate. Has anyone thought of insulating the rods where they meet the lock thingy with PTFE Teflon Tubing or insulating that and the attachment points to the tailgate with wear resistant rubber grommets or rubber washers? I can assume that rubber or foam adhesive backed insulation placed on the tailgate interior walls around the attachment points etc would help as well as a few people suggested similar.

For those of you that have completed the install, what are your thoughts on the exact cause of the loud clunking? Comments on the DIY vs aftermarkets are important as well. Thank You!

Pretty sure I've see a couple guys put some sound deadening material like you'd
use for audio installs around the area on the tailgate.

Yea I saw that too. But I'm trying to find out if anyone really dove in trying to figure out what exactly was causing the noises/clunking that most everyone is reporting. Basically... is there someone out there that is OCD and couldn't take the clunking noise and got down and dirty with it to figure out what is and how to stop the noise/clunking and how did they do it. Or anyone willing to brainstorm to determine a fix or if they have tried to it just seems it as not possible...

    Does anyone have any input?

I just got mine in the mail yesterday and plan to have it installed this weekend. I doubt a quick clunking noise when opening/shutting would be that big of a deal but I'll dig a bit deeper and see if the noise can be lessened by better lubrication.. Cheers.

From what I've read it occurs when locking and unlocking, not opening and shutting.

FYI. I did the install yesterday and noticed the wiring instructions mentioned in the video were reversed.
I had to connect Green wire to Green and Blue to Red, otherwise it will lock when pressing the Unlock on the remote control
