OEM Camera Connection below Dash

that's all you had to do to get the rear view camera to show up on the after market head unit display? Also the purple with white wire you speak of is the one on the head unit itself, correct?

 

So Im trying to get the same info and I would also like to have a definite answer on this question.

When wiring up an aftermarket head unit to a 2009-2013 that has the OEM camera mirror all you have to do is the video cable mod as explained by the OP AND you have to tap into the reverse signal wire that is posted in #175 by Ls1. Is this correct?

 

I tried it and it did not work for me. The screen goes black and says no signal. I am going to try the original write up with the RCA cable this weekend.

I bought a Pioneer AVH x5800bhs and the

$72 Crux SWRTY 61n Radio Replacement with SWC & OE RVC Retention (for Toyota Vehicles 2012-Up)

Crux SWRTY 61n harness that is supposed to keep the factory camera but I can't get it to work. I can't wait to give this a try. If it doesn't work it looks like I'll be buying an aftermarket camera.

Can anyone confirm this works on a 2015 and my style head unit?

 

This has been a bitch to decipher. A serious thorn in my side and is quite literally the final connection I need to hook up to on my AVIC8000NEX to make everything fully functional once again. Everything from the actual connector for my 2012 double cab with JBL which turns out to be behind the kick panel at a black 4 pin connector, colors black, red, white and bare wire, which turn out to be camera + which is black in color. (BLACK OUT OF ALL COLORS, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME TOYOTA?!) Red, which is video +. White, which turns out to be video -. and camera ground which is no color and comes as bare wire.

We are supposed to be hooking into ONLY the V+ and V- which once again will be red for + and white for - in order to get a video signal to our aftermarket head unit. Theoretically.

Still haven't been able to hook it up. I am not sure I want to go and try it AGAIN at this very moment, but now, knowing exactly where connector ID1 is on my model and my year, as well as knowing the correct camera wiring configuration, this SHOULD work. Should being the keyword here. I have low hopes for the mod however.

BTW, to anyone who is just as clueless as I was as to how Coaxial video cable works up until today when I managed to finally hook up my XM radio using the OE shark fin, there are three layers to the wire. Peel away the insulation and you will see braided sleeving. Ignore this, it has nothing to do with anything that you will want to hook up with, into, or onto. There is what is basically the equal to aluminum foil, which is considered the shield. This part is considered ground, and it is imperative that you do not tear it off and attempt to use the braiding as circuitry! Finally, there is an inner core which uses solid gauge wire, you must peel away the insulation off the wiring in order to be able to use it and this inner core is considered the positive, or power wire of the RCA cable.

Hope this helps people. Here is a publication of 2012's with Entune (May apply to the trucks which don't too, maybe?) and all the connectors and diagrams you need, just in case you are more of a visual learner, rather than a reader. I know sometimes I am.

And… no go. I finally worked up enough will power to try this once more, and sure enough, no signal. Just black picture upon "reverse" command… It seems as if some of these models will require a 12 volt to 6 volt dc/dc converter. It sounds like more trouble than it is worth and I may end up just ripping it all out and starting fresh with a regular backup cam which uses 12 volts.

This seems to be the way to wire it if you have Homelink and the camera in the rearview mirror. Does anyone know how to wire it to an aftermarket HU if you had the camera originally on the factory HU?

Ordered a new Kenwood hu and plan to try this mod soon on my 2011 with JBL. Has anyone done this on a JBL successfully? I read through the whole thread and don't remember anyone with the JBL doing this. Thanks.

 

Just installed a Kenwood DDX374BT and did the video feed mod and it works. I do get the black lines scrolling down the screen but it is very weak, not bad at all. Started out worse and kept playing with different wires and got it down some. Luckily for me this hu has a cam button on the face and it gives me control to turn it on and off manually. I have the idatalink maestro so idk if that plays into this set or not but it works.

I haven't ran the power from the reverse line so it doesn't come on automatically when I shift to reverse. This brings up the question of the voltage. I know it's said that the rear view mirror uses 6v and I need to covert to 6v. My question is why? How do I know the hu needs only 6v rather than 12? Is this the normal for video? Or could that just be the mirror and the hu could run off 12v? Just trying to sort this out before going any farther and I'm in the middle of the install so I'm hoping for a quick answer. Although I may leave my power wire hooked only at the hu and if needed put the voltage adapter under the dash later so I won't have to pull the hu again. Thanks.

 

Never mind about the power wire and voltage. Changed a setting in the hu and it's working!

On another note, the lines in the screen disappeared when I turned the rear view display off.

 

Well shit, first time on the road and the manual camera doesn't work. Apparently it knows when moving. It works parked. And the damn rear view keeps turning itself back on.
