‘Good to hear someone's got a solid truck, that said. I'm perplexed by your first statement asking about tire size then followed by NVM shit happens. Is this in ref to the diff issues he's had and you're shrugging it off? If I'm mistaken please correct me. ‘
Some ppl cause their own problems by modifying their vehicles while other just have $shit for luck. But on the bright side, if it wasn’t for $hit luck, they wouldn’t have any luck at all.
“Transmissions, if there isn't sufficient fluid it will cause drivability issues, doesn't have to be bone dry.”
The trans holds around 11 qts, the pan would have to be bone dry before any issues would be noted as the ECM would compensate as it tries to do with a cylinder miss issue.
Hard to tell without scan or idiot light. You been reading too much junk here on TW about this issue, most is ridiculous to say the least.
“Break the tires loose by hand? Are you referring to the lug nuts and them being over torqued? I've seen that before but haven't seen it be the cause of the rumble stop feeling, I've seen warped rotors cause it.”
Have you tried it on his vehicle?? Why could it not be the cause??
Try it you’ll like the new smooth as silk ride. You can thank me later btw...
“Thankfully you've had a receptive dealer. My experiences with them are middle of the road. Some are awesome others need schooling in customer service. I've had to engage corporate before to get traction with a dealership over the lack of response and accountability from a dealership.”
I’ve dealt with many dealers of all makes/models both personally and as fleet manager of a very large fleet and have run the gamut or share of good and bad in them all.
But all Toyota dealers I’ve dealt with so far seemed very concerned about legitimate costumer care issues.
BTW, domestics are getting like that also as of late, but they have serious quality issues in their products that they can’t over come.
    Cheers!

I've got just under 6000 miles in just under 5 months and I'm getting 20mpg on my commute from work to home. It's got some terrible street traffic and an uphill acceleration to 65mph both ways. I can't believe it says 20mpg every day when I get home.

I get around 23-25mpg on the highway between 60-70mph

Im the same way, I only live 2.3 miles from work so most of my miles are lots of short trips, and my mileage has increased with every tank so far.

I have discovered another issue though... It was windy today and I heard the dreaded howl on the way home. I'm beyond pissed and if Toyota doesn't give me my what I payed for the truck back I'm heading to the dealership with a pitch fork.

Or, I'll spend 5 minutes and plug it like the others then go back to enjoying my awesome truck. Luckily, I could barely notice it since the cab is so quiet.

I'm sorry, I can't say I put any credibility into what you've stated. I've been here for going on 10 years, if you check the member number you'll see that I'm not some new guy on TW. I've been driving for 23 years and been working on vehicles for even longer and I have a sense of what happens when fluids are low. Would you run and engine with less oil than is required? Run the power steering pump with less fluid than required? Allow the master cylinder to have less than the required amount? Run a 6V battery in the truck? Why would less ATF in the trans not cause issues in the clutch packs and hydraulic operations of the transmission.

    Cheers...

Don't mean to brag... But I got 25mpg on my last tank but I live in Jersey where it is very flat and I'm driving it like it's going to break... It's a dclb sport 2016 with 1,000 on it...

I take note and admire that if as you say, you’ve been on here 10 yrs and working on your own vehicles for some 23yrs. I really do, and I miss that on new all vehicles b/c that’s no longer the case for most ppl.
Case in point sealed transmissions, and some even seal engines.
This is done to protect ppl from doing damage to their vehicles and causing unnecessary warranty repair damage, and to the reputation of the company or it’s product.
But are you a professional certified tech?? I’m betting your not based on your statement.
But just FYI most engines only require about 3qts of oil to run, the rest is used as a reserve and cooling. And btw, they are tested at that minimum, and even run test with no oil to take notes of durability and /or weaknesses.
But in actual service, you want that reserve, just like you want that reserve on fuel once the gas needle hits empty.
But what if I’m only 1 quart low?? Is that going to destroy my engine in 150k??
Of course not, you’ll be fine. The dip stick is yard stick measurement, not the law of due or die. Now apply that to the transmission and other components throughout the vehicle
Moreover, let me just say here that if there really was a problem with that low fluid issue, you would get a tsb, recall letter, law suit or something with substance and verification that there really is a problem along with a extended warranty.
But as of now, there's no such thing out there, the panic and paranoia appears to be only here on TW by a few.
Until then, stop feeding the trolls, paranoia, and sleep well my friends. All IS and will be well with the truck.
    Cheers!

Dealer wouldn't grease mine since it's a custom 1 piece and not a Toyota part. So I took my OEM drive shaft back (was in the bed of my truck) and made them grease the 3 zerks. The one piece only had 1 zerk, logic.

    lol :D Sounds about right!

My issue is the straight up bullshit so many dealers are known for.

Asked to have several things done @ my oil change and HOPING that was done properly
and a new filter put in but based on the list of other things I asked to have done and that they
stated on the paper work was done, I have my doubts on that as well.

Went under the truck the next day, no grease to be found, ALL zerks still dusty/dirty and
untouched, ATF never checked so I highly doubt the diffs were checked either that I asked
be done. And Corps only response is to keep taking it back to them till they do it.

Interesting comments...I have been to two dealerships, one here in Seattle and one in Las Vegas...both sent me online surveys about my experience with my service and both had viewing windows in the service area where you could watch them work on your vehicle...

Had the truck a month and the truck was built mid March 2016. No major issues as of yet but I just only hit 1200 miles so time will tell. Nothing funky going on with the tranny, no howl, no low speed rumble and no bouncing hood as of yet. Again, time will tell. I have to try and get the truck in next week to replace the clear paint protection piece on the hood as it's peeling in one spot. Noticed it on delivery but the salesman said give it a few days to see if it adheres better since the truck was just built and there were spots where you could see the alcohol was still wet under the vinyl and the vinyl wasn't 100% cured to the surface. I knew better as I have worked with vinyl for many moons and knew this was not a spot where the liquid under the vinyl from a wet install needed to be released/dried and was just straight up vinyl failure due to something getting onto the adhesive. It was getting late and I didn't have any more time to kill so I rolled out knowing it would be covered when I went back anyway. While I am there I am going to have them check the tranny, diffs and U-joints. They were supposed to have done it prior to me taking delivery but I know better than to believe that they actually rolled a brand new truck on my word that Toyota wasn't doing the proper fills at the factory into the service dept to check all of this out. My mpg is pretty poor on the truck but it is a truck so I really have no room to complain especially since most of my trips are short trips either taking my daughter to and from pre-school, short 20 minute drives to the firehouse every few days and than doing the same trip home the following mornings or just local running around which also consists of small low mileage stints. My lifetime average on the truck is reading 19.6 and with the handful of tank fills I have had I average between 19-20 per tank. Not terrible but not great either especially since my wifes 7 passenger Santa Fe with a 6cyl. averages 24-25 around town. Not my first Taco so I know the new engine wasn't going to be some miracle solution to higher getting higher mpgs. Trucks not as snappy as my second gen was with the new motor unless I run with the ECT button on which with that engaged I feel like this motor has more pep than the second gen but keeping that thing engaged for a while you really see your mpgs take a dump so I only turn it on when I am looking for bursts of power. Again, I bought a pickup so I am not expecting the truck to run like a sports car or get Prius gas mileage. All livable for what it is, a mid sized pickup truck. If I wanted a monster motor in a pickup I could have bought a Tundra or if I wanted speed and handling I could have bought the Charger Skat Pack I contemplated for a little while. :D Factory tonneau cover keeps the contents I regularly keep in the bed nice and dry and the interior is leaps and bounds more enjoyable than my old second gen. Entune is what it is and the short comings of it is brand wide. There's worse infotainment systems out there and a lot better as well. I'd say Entune is a good middle of the ground system. It has it's quirks and bugs but again they all do no matter which nameplate your driving. I paid for the premium/tech package with JBL. JBL package is weak and for the cost of entry I expected better since other Toyota vehicles I have owned with JBL are leaps and bounds better but again, Toyota has never been known for putting quality audio in the Tacoma or 4 Runners for that matter for some reason. I would be curious to sit in a non JBL Taco for comparison but overall the system is very unimpressive. Overall, I am very satisfied with the truck. I am constantly getting compliments on the Inferno color as well and notice 1st and second gen owners on the road constantly staring down the truck as I pass. If Toyota can resolve the few issues that seem to be commonplace I forsee this version doing very well for them for a few years until they revamp the truck again. Anyone waiting for teh 2017 models to hit thinking there will be vast improvements, I think you will be sorely disappointed. Toyota doesn't seem to react to feedback very quick.

New-ish member but I've been lurking for a while. 2000mi and very happy. Only issue I've noticed is that howl, and if it bugs me enough I'll spend the 5 minutes to plug the holes. Granted the MT is immune from most of the auto's problems (trans fluid, gear hunting, cruise control).

I picked my truck up on Oct 17 and I have had 0 issues whatsoever. She has almost 7k on the odo and is just getting warmed up for a long life. I will admit to getting a chuckle from all the bitching on here about low AT fluid and other transmission problems. Just one more reason a MT is by far superior!!
