The farm I hunt, I could shoot one every day. The hens and toms are plentiful.
The fun though, is scouting their roost and calling a long beard in.

I'm not sure about all the hate of everything chrome. Sure it's to much in some cases, but I think it looks great on some trucks. Chrome has been around for longer then most of us! My chrome...

My first truck was a 1990 Dodge Dakota. No power anything, including stearing. I drove that thing until the paint flew off and rusted....funny how fast things can go wrong in 4 years.

I never really understood the mindset of buying a vehicle based upon resale value. That line thinking robs you of being able to make a decision based upon what YOU want, while swaying you to think more about other people's benefit. I do understand why some people factor it into their decision, but if I want a truck because its nice, has the features I want, and is a solid price, then I would buy it.

To throw that away because it might not be worth as much as a different truck in 6 years seems ridiculous.

    Isn't that the truth.
Yeah KBB and NADA are nice but your truck, boat, bike, sled is only worth what someone will pay for it.
Even if the dealer gives you top book, you know they are gonna get you the other way.
Private party? What a pain in the butt.
What do we do when we go to buy something? We want the best deal!!
Can't tell you how many times I have read on here, why buy used add a couple thousand and buy new!
Gosh, I even did it myself.
The only time I have ever made out is keeping my Toyota Truck loooonggg term as in 10 years.
It is still a sought after truck. Well after the frame is replaced.

Well I have a fine sample and lesson learned, 5 years ago we bought a CPO VW CC for my wife, just traded it in, we got close to nothing for the trade.
Yeah car was good looking and have all the options we wanted, despite the reputation and resale value we bought it, well 5 years later and the car barely holding up in 1 piece we got close to nothing on a trade which really hurt a bit. So I can of agree and disagree with you, so to make it short and not go far out of topic, just buy responsible and see your options and its always a good practice to keep in mind re-sale price cuz like it or not it really will help on make a good deal on your next vehicle.
The story was way different at the time I traded in My Tacoma :)

This guy gets it. I bought my dakota brand new off the truck in 2005. I still have it today and nothing wrong with it, I just want to get a Tacoma. At the time I WANTED the Dakota. I didn´t buy it based off of resale, payments, or really even reliability. I saw it, the quad cab was plenty big enough for the family, the V8 is powerful, I liked the looks of it, I wanted it, I got it. Now, I want a new Tacoma, and I will most likely have that for 10 plus years, until I see something else I WANT. I do not buy for the next person and that should not be why anyone buys anything. Will I get a lot for the Dakota on trade, NO, and I don´t expect much, but I feel after 11 years of ownership I got my moneys worth out of it, a vehicle is not an investment.

Completely agree. I'm in the exact same boat as you except mines an 02. Really great truck and still going strong with 160000 miles on it:thumbsup: I am not expecting much when it comes time to sell it but I don't really care because it is a solid all-around truck and it has served me well for the past 14 years.

I can't imagine keeping a truck for 14 years. Good job!! But, the reality is most people do not. I will say that I did like my 2001 Dakota right up until I traded for my 2003 Jeep Wrangler.

As far as Ram trucks unfortunately the resale/trade in sucks. This is coming from a Dodge/Ram guy. I have owned a few.
1995 Dodge 1 ton dually with a cummins diesel.
    2001 Dodge Dakota 360 V8
2009 Ram Quad cab 1500 Hemi
2011 Ram 3500 Mega Cab Cummins diesel
    2012 Ram 1500 Hemi
I was driving Dodge/Ram trucks while most in my area were driving Ford/Chevy?GMC. I traded or sold all of these trucks with less then 20,000 miles. They were all in perfect condition when sold. The depreciation on every one of them was horrible. Luckily I bought them when Chrysler was giving big discounts. That being said I did not buy them based on projected resale. I liked the looks, comfort and motors. The Cummins Diesels were great. The Hemi was great also. Except for the poor fuel mileage. Average 16.5 is about the best you can hope for. I had no mechanical issues with any of the trucks. So why did I switch to Tacoma?
    1. My wife did not like driving full size trucks.
    2. The reliability of Tacoma pickups.
    3. Resale values of Tacoma pickups since I trade often.
    4. Off road capabilities.
Our first Tacoma 2015 Black DCLB which is now my wife's daily driver (her choice).
Our 2nd Tacoma 2016 Inferno DCSB OR. I drive.
We also tow a RPod 179 camper. The 2015 Taco had no problem towing this. I have only made a short 10 mile trip towing it with the 2016 Taco. I will be taking it on a 250 mile trip in a couple of weeks. We will see how the engine and trans do on that trip.

Well, back to the Ram trucks. While I liked the trucks. Lets say I did not love the trucks. The 2015 Tacoma I like but, not feeling the love. Now the 2016 Inferno Tacoma I'm kinda feeling the love. Even with a few issues. While the Ram trucks were okay they were boring. They were just transportation. The 2016 Tacoma for me personally is just far more enjoyable to drive. I used to leave my Ram truck in the garage and take my old Suburban hunting. Now the old suburban sets and I jump in the Taco.

So IMHO comfort goes to the Ram. Off Road, looks and overall enjoyment goes to the Tacoma. And I am an old guy.

Goose, I am toying with the idea of a lightweight trailer like an RPod ... I am very curious what you think of towing yours with the 2016 after your trip here a week or so ago...I suppose 250 miles gave you a good indication what kind of mileage a fella can expect on the highway pulling a hard-sided lightweight and kind-of aerodynamic (compared to a regular travel trailer anyway) camper???

I have not had a chance to make the trip. It has been raining every weekend. We have decided we may sell our 2015 179 RPod. Thinking we may build a cabin on our land.
The Rpod is a great camper. No problems towing with our 2015 DCLB SR5. The 2016 DCSB pulls it just fine also.

I had to drive one Dodge Charger for a year and two Dodge Rams for a year and I hated all three vehicles.
They were company vehicles and all three had problems. No way I would spend my own money on a Dodge.
