People that get the workouts that way rarely do them. The programs are very well thought out, they work very well if you actually stick with them. Beachbody has been a very positive thing in my life, I don't make a ton of money with it yet. I am on a sick team with weekly training how to run the biz opportunity. You can't sign up, do nothing and expect to make a dime. MLM's work extremely well if you work.

Agreed no matter what your program is..you reap what you sow.

I started getting serious after turning 40, always had too much extra poundage and drank a lot of soda (and beer in my younger years). My wife always got on me about it..and she was 100% right so I'm not complaining.

Since I started she said she wanted to do it and then finds every excuse not to even spend 10 minutes on the treadmill..or use hand weights I bought her while watching TV. Wouldn't be so bad but she is insanely jealous of my progress.

I don't know where you are from but in ABQ, NM we have a place called nutrishop. They are a supplement store but also have a "coach" type system. A buddy of mine used to be a manager there and I think he told me most employees are registered nutritionists and fitness competitors so they know their shit. You can try and get your lady to see someone like that. They go over nutrition, meal planning and fitness goals. If you live in an urban area I bet you could find something like that.

Another thing I was wondering.... Do you work out with her to help motivate her? If you live in a warm area you could get a jogging stroller and take her and the kid out or one of the backpack

Well guys I just thought I write a quick update on here.

So maybe a few of you noticed I was extra cranky for about a month there. It's my bad. Really I come on this site to blow off steam and enjoy the conversation when I don't have a babysitter or time to go out. It's definitely not always good for the filter I have and I'm going to make significant changes to try and get past that. I only mention that because it ties directly back to the original topic and you'll see in this writing why that flared up. I'm not passing blame, the buck stops here, but there were factors definitely involved that I should of handled better.

The wife has now been on beach body and their shakology program for about 6 months. I have to say it's somewhat impressive. I mean, it's not any better than eating right and hitting the gym, but she's lost several inches and built some muscle. She's not back to where she wants to be, I'm going to clarify that because I don't want her to get back to anything I love her as she is, but she's getting closer and closer each month. What really helped her was tying in the shakology with a program called 21 day fix which is a workout program with portion control. It's forced us to eat better which, of course, pays off quickly. Overall, after she milked their system and signed us both up as coaches, the cost is not too bad. It's around $100 per month including all the workouts, portion control stuff, and various workouts she does. Again, that's close to what a gym and gym nutritionist would cost so it's not that bad on the wallet. It also gives her something to do and work on when she's down which has been a huge bonus. I try to make an effort to ask her how things are going but she had brief dreams of the coach program turning into a money maker which made it tough to have a totally committed conversation. I, of course, would listen but she would ask for an opinion and I would of course tell her that while I had the same hope it wasn't something I thought would turn out into a career. She would get a little miffed sometimes at that. That is until she realized it's basically a legal pyramid scheme. Only the coaches already registered long ago will make real money doing it because they make a portion of the margin off everyone below them. She's happy with being in the program and helping other people who want to try it which is a really good place to be IMHO.

As for her mental state that's still a tough one. She switched around here meds a few times, then went off them, and then crashed out a month ago. By that I mean she was back to where she was in the months right after birth. I can tell she really hates being medicated, because it kills some of her drive for things, which leads to her not taking the meds eventually. Lately things have been better though. Our kid is doing awesome and my wife went back to work which has really helped things out. She also made a promise to go back on her meds, which she admits she needs for now, and things are coming back together nicely.

Basically, other than a hiccup, things are way better than they were when I wrote this. Thanks for everyone who chirped in and I thought I'd give an update. Good luck to everyone else out there :).

Sounds like some good progress all in all man. Good to hear.

I relate in that I don't care how my wife looks, I still think she's attractive. But if she wants to get in better shape I will support her no matter what.

"Only the coaches already registered long ago will make real money doing it because they make a portion of the margin off everyone below them." My coach has been doing it for 4 years, he's worked his ass off and makes a 6 figure salary. Again, worked his ass off recruiting and training others. If you don't work, there will be no rewards. It's not for everyone. The time thing is a misconception.

Well it depends on how you look at it.

You can only make the big money IF you get several levels of coaches below you. In other words, you have to drum up your own customers, turn them into coaches, get them to do the same thing, etc etc. To make 6 figures you'd have to have a monumental amount of coaches in the levels below you since each margin opportunity per sale is only about $20 each time. So, to make $100,000, you'd need to sell roughly 5,000 units of merchandise a year through your own coaching system. At $100 a pop of internet and mass marketing sales from your home that's a huge number.

Is it possible to reach that level? Yes. Is it directly correlated to how much time you spend? No. My wife is a part of several coaches groups and had spent full time work hours trying to drum up business only to never make it past the "emerald" level. Trust me, she's an extremely hard worker (full time mom, full time student, and full time career woman) so it was never a matter of how much time she put in or care. She hasn't even got a single reference under the emerald program where you are supposed to get random phone in referrals. It's not a system that rewards hard work. It's a system that rewards some luck and being first into an area of the world where beach body isn't already popular so you can build up your own base of customers and coaches easily.

The people who were first in the beach body system in an area, like your friend it sounds, have an advantage because they have an easier time recruiting coaches and customers under their account. Now most of the people who would adopt beach body and take the time to become a coach are already recruited under one of those early adopters branch networks or "pyramids" if you will. Those are the people that now function as the pseudo area managers of each area. The coaches that sign up now adays can hope, at best, to make back there investment. It's a legal pyramid scheme because there is product sold, but the similarities are haunting. The people first in make the money. The people in last end up trapped at the bottom no matter how many Youtube videos, online meetings, facebook pages, cold calls, etc they make because the customer base for what they are selling is depleted.

The system is really sideways because it basically focuses on making more "coaches", people who are charged a monthly fee for the right to sell beach body stuff, rather than customers. Right there should throw up a red flag and show you where their margins are coming from.

If selling beach body for $100K a year was a matter of hard work and putting the time in training people, every person who sells fitness would sign up and put in their normal 60 hours a week to get there. Quite simply, it's not that simple.

You make some really good points there for sure and sounds like you understand the system. I am only emerald, and I enjoy the products and basically break even which is OK with me for now. Our team seems to create a ton of diamond coaches somehow.. and many of them are doing really well in the CT area. I hope to see a 1/4 of their success.

It sounds like your area might be a little more "virgin" than around here, for lack of a better term. Good luck. I don't hold anything against beach body as a company for their product but their system of sales isn't for me. That doesn't mean that it won't work for someone else

While I know not a whit of this, I think we can all agree that you gotta put in work. No free lunch, pardon the pun.

Ster, I relate to the meds thing big time.
