The particular aluminum alloy they use (al 5052) is about quarter-to-half the strength of many common types of generic steel. So even the extra 25% thickness (which cuts weight savings to about 1/3 rather than 1/2) doesn't net you the same strength (there's a ton of different ways to calculate it, depending on the direction of impacts and what type of strength you mean... A loss of strength, however, isn't necessarily a loss of protection. Aluminum will dent/bend/etc more before breaking, so it may provide protection in sharp, hard impacts that steel would not. But it will be damaged in the process. And, of course, it will act as somewhat of a cushion for the rest of the truck when it flexes on impacts, when compared to steel transferring the same load.

As for powdercoat:
Pros: It looks pretty. It's tougher than many paints. Protects against corrosion until you scrape it off.
Cons: hard to touch up in a way that looks good. Kinda spendy.

I wouldn't bother with using it on aluminum for corrosion prevention, as aluminum does not significantly corrode beyond getting to the silvery-whitish color that you probably associate with aluminum. Kinda the same as stainless steel.

I do not believe they make sliders in aluminum just steal.

Had them powder coated so they were just north of 600... kind of pricey but has a great design and well built.

agreed....considering what you got, that's pretty damn good. now just got to wait for the DCLB sliders to come out....

Went with the full steel skids (Front, Trans, Transfer Case, A-Arms and Gas Tank). Great fit and finish. Instructions could be improved upon. Did an exhaust reroute to tuck them up tight.

Haven't seen a kit. If it exists, it would have to require welding. A local muffler shop will get you setup.
