Does gas mileage increase after a new engine is broken in?

Have a new 09 with only 320 miles on it. Put gas in today for the first time. Most of the 320 miles were on the freeway to and from work. Thats only about 18-19mpg. Can I expect an increase in mpg as my engine gets broken in?

 

Yes, and it can take 20K plus miles to do so.

Don't accelerate hard and keep the tach to about 2k in a v6 while crusing. That's where you'll see your best mileage. If you are really serious about monintoring you fuel mileage get a Scan Guage II and use it.

Don't expect much of an increase though. I have seen an approx 1 MPG mileage increase in my '07 V-6 Prerunner and it occured about the same time that I switched to synthetic oil. I now get about 18.5 around town. I haven't had it on the highway enough to comment on highway MPG. Truck only has 15k miles on it though.
