    Decisions Decisions......

So got my mind made up to getting some GoodYear Duratracs. They are currently on sale at Canadian Tire here in Canada. I chose them due to being able to get a C load tire in 16inch variation. Now just need to figure out which size I should get:

    LT265/75 R16 (32 Inch Tire) C Load $196 Each.
    265/70 R16 (31 Inch Tire) SL Load $213 Each.
    LT245/75 R16 (31 Inch Tire) C Load $180 Each.

I still have the standard steel rims with the truck and those will be good enough for me. Currently have on the original 245/75 R16 Dunlops and they are getting ready to be switched over. Which size would you go with seeing those options with associated costs. Thoughts?

can you stomach a mpg loss due to heavier tires? if so, go for 265/75/16 load C. I lost about 1.5 mpg when I went to this exact tire, from stock 265/70/16. Love the tires, well planted and all around goodness

So. Do you need a C tire? If so, your choice from your list is down to 2.

That said, the decision comes down to 20mm in width and 1" in diameter.

Only you can decide if bigger is better for how you use the truck.

    From TireRack:
    LT245/75R16 108/104Q C - 40 lbs
    265/70R16 112S SL - 42 lbs
    LT265/75R16 112/109Q C - 45 lbs

If you don't want/need a bigger tire than go for the 245/75/16. They will handle better and get better gas mileage than the other two.

I went with 265/70/17 Duratracs on stock 17" wheels which would be roughly equivalent to 265/75/16. With the stock offset there are no issues with rubbing on that size. I picked the Duratracs because they were the lightest of the tires I liked. With that said, I can still feel the difference in how the suspension reacts compared to the lighter stock tires. They jitter more after bumps. Lighter is better. So I would suggest you go with the smallest of those 3 sizes that you think you'll be happy with.

I decided to go with the 265/75 R16. The only thing I am wondering now is if it will fit on my stock steel rims. I think they are 16x7 rims. Do I need to get a wider wheel. I want to keep the original steel stocks. Will 265 fit on them?

Assuming your rims are 16x7, they're good to go - you do not need to get wider wheels. According to Goodyear, approved rim width for 265/75 R16 Duratrac is 7.0-8.0 inches.

That's too bad. If you were down here in Calgary, I'd show you the tires on a 16" rim.

Since you're not, here is a 265/75R16 on the stock 16"x7" rims.

That looks really good. I will have to update my rims eventually but I still like the stock Steelies for now which are also 16x7 so they should fit. Duratracs go on this weekend.

Picked them up off Kijiji for $400 with TMPS sensors. Had them (poorly) sandblasted. Ended up sanding the larger areas with my random orbital sander. Primed, painted, and clear coated with Duplicolor rim paint. Held up okay, but it scraped in a few place.

Tires for the 16" rims at the time I purchased them were around $240 less per set of 4 than the 17".

What kind of canopy you got on that. Looks like a nice big side window on that one. What model?

Quick question for the guys with duratracs, what do you guys keep your pressure at? I've got the 265/75r16 on the stock wheels on my truck, I'm just not sure what the pressure should be at. I know it might be different from truck to truck, but what is a good ballpark range?

I read through the Duratrac thread before I bought mine and the consensus seemed to be that 38 psi is best. I started there and haven't had any reason to change it.

Got the 265/75/R16 Duratracs put on. Looks pretty good. So far Speedometer is bang on for speed with my GPS. Odometer is showing less then actual traveled amount on GPS. They put 32 psi in so I will see how that feels for a while.
