I'm due for my first 5K service on my truck. When purchased I was told by the salesman to make an appointment at 5K for an oil change, tire rotation, equipment check, etc. When I called to make the appointment I was told oil is changed at 10K for this truck.
I may be blinded/convinced by 40 something years of "old school" engine use?, but, to me 10K seems excessive for a first time oil change with a brand new engine.
Am I out of line with this thinking or is synthetic oil really that good.

You can request it to be done. It will count as one of your two free oil changes under Toyota care

The manual states 10k for first oil changes, unless certain driving conditions apply.
Some dealers will let you use one of your oil changes at the 5k, but not all will.
Yes, things have changed and some manufacturers no longer require a ¨break-in¨ oil change. Toyota is one of those.
You can see if they will do it for free, some guys have paid to get it done at the 5k service just to ease their mind, its up to you.

Oh yea, I see you have a 4x4, make sure they lube the U-joints. I would look for signs of grease on the zerks before driving away.

Yeah. I'm gonna be having a long drive home. I will make sure all of these things are addressed before I drive away.

I'm not thrashing the truck and it has mostly highway miles so I'm good with 10K oil changes. I did get free car washes for life when I bought the truck :)

Oil and engine technology have really improved over the last decade. Auto manufacturers really spend a good bit of money and effort determining oil performance.... if they say 10,000 miles, that's what I'd go with.

mine was done at 5k, I live in the desert and offroad 2-3x a month, so.....every 5k for oil & driveline zerks, 15k for gear oil(diffs/xfer case), 30k for trans.

I was just searching through the forum to find if anyone else had these concern. Toyota is supposed to fulfill all the service requirements stated in the manual until their service contract is up 24months or 25,000 miles. I was under my truck yesterday installing a rear view camera and notice that the universal joint on the drive shaft had NOT been greased and my truck has been in for 3 scheduled maintenances. I think I may lodge a complaint once I verify that chassis and drive train lubrication is on the maintenance schedule.

Hopefully you people are still rotating your tires every 5k and not waiting until your 10k service

When I had my 5k done I was told that every Toyota is 10k for the first oil change, except the Tacoma, which is 5k. This was news to me, but, whatever.
