I've got a 2012 4x4 sr5 acces cab. I'm looking to get about a 2" lift and eventually run some 285-75r16's for light-moderate off roading, but still use this as my daily driver. I've basically narrowed my options to three choices: bilstien 5100's, a basic spacer lift, or swapping in tundra trd coilovers. I'd be using AAL's for the back.

Being that this is my first time doing anything suspension related, I would love some input on the pro's and con's from these three choices. Ride quality, durability, price differences...any of that info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Of those three, 5100s would be my vote. Use OME 884 coils for ~2" if you have the money (assuming you have the 4.0).

FYI - you're going to need to do some significant trimming and buy aftermarket wheels or wheel spacers to fit 285/75r16s.

If the tundra gear gets you the lift you want with proper fitment, that would be my route.(caveat. I've not tried this nor recall much reading about it. Don't know what any drawbacks might be)

5100's likely next, but with coils to give the lift you want instead of pre loading the OE coils.

We really should create a section for these kind of questions.

Maybe make a "suspension" forum or something...

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Consider it done! (and I don't even work here!)

Now for one of these kids to whip up a proper YouTube video on how to use the search feature. And have watching it be a requirement of accessing the forum the 1st 10 log ins. :D

Thanks for the heads up. I'm currently running the stock 245/75r16...what's the largest size I could run after the 2" lift without having to trim anything?

I'd vote for the tundra pro if it would work. At least it's OEM, and should give the fewest problems. I have a TRD pro kit on mine, and it's been excellent. Just like from the factory.

OEM for a completely different, significantly heavier vehicle. It will likely give him the most trouble (if it even fits) because it was not designed to fit a Tacoma.

I vote 5100s on all 4 corners, and OME 884 coils up front to provide lift. Here's mine with the 885s and a 2" AAL. The whole set up cost me $630 and got me about 2.5" in the front. I'm running 265/70r17s, so for you that's be 265/75r16, which is what someone suggested above.

True, yeah, I agree, if it works. It would be kind of innovative if it did work.

Thanks again for the info! I'll keep that in mind

That's a sweet setup! So the 884's and 885's are both 2" lift coils except the 885 has a higher weight rating? Also, with the 5100/884 setup in the front and AAL in the back, can I keep the stock rear shock?

Sorta not really. I believe they have the same weight capacity, but the heights are different? @DCSBFTMFW can chime in and answer better. I do know you won't want to keep the rear stock. Then you'll have bro lean like I did before installing the rear

The 884 and 885 coils are both 590lb spring rate. The 885 is 5mm taller, which gives approx .5" of lift.

If you put an AAL on the rear, you'd probably want to replace the stock shocks.

Just realized you asked about the rear shock, and not the rear lift. You'll want to replace the rear shock. I don't think it's long enough for the extra flex and you can overextend it.

image.jpg Is your truck 4x4? If so 885's will get you about 2.5" after they settle. I went that route with Bilstein 5100s all around and I ride on 285/75/16 but with aftermarket wheels that have 3.5" backspacing so they stick out a little further. If you're in a similar setup, you're going to need to :sawzall: I can almost promise you.

OK, so I could go with the 5100's all around like @EatSleepTacos suggested, ome 884's in the front, AAL in the back and the 265/75r16's to avoid any rubbing. Sounds great! Now I just gotta start checking the couch cushions for loose change!

    Thanks for the help guys!!

Also, you can fit that size tire with no lift in case you just wanted bigger tires
