I drove to the beach last weekend and decided to rinse off the sand from the truck with a hose. It was a hot day and the water on the hood dried really fast and left these splotches all across the hood. Does anyone have tips for getting rid of those splotches? Did I just ruin my paint job?

Try a quick detailer spray and wipe first. Then if that doesn't work your looking at hand wax and if that doesn't it's time too break out the orbital buffer and compound wax.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
Paint is just fine. What you are seeing is the deposits in the tap water and stayed after the water dried.

    You could:
    - wash again and dry immediately after washing,
    - use a speed detailer to remove the spots,
    - if washing does not remove, you could clay bar.

1st black vehicle? Might want to spend some time in Girots Garage.

Keeping a black car clean is a career. There are no benefits or health coverage. So sorry.

I'd follow @YotaLife406 and @DCSBFTMFW's advice, in that order, then wax the bejeesus out of it.

My wife just said you should try vinegar. That's how she gets water splotches off of everything.

Not ruined..But it will take a buffer and polish to remove the spots..Orbital buffer will be safe for a rookie...Black paint will always require work...Like said above Griots, auto geek, Adams polishes, countless places online will give you the best advice...Good luck

Mine was the same way. I didn't clay bar it, but I did wax it with maguires (my go to choice) and haven't had problems since.

Worst spots where on the hood...particularly closer to the windshield.

If you break out the polishes or orbital make sure it's very clean first. Otherwise you'll be fixing swirls. Research first because you'll trade one for another. As said, keeping black paint nice is hard work.

Hard water, salt water falls in that category. Depends on where you live if you have well water more than likely even of you have a water softener its gonna be on the high end for mineral deposits. Thats all your dealing with, PITA.
