Tacoma tailgate issue.. Help please

2007 Toyota Tacoma

I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma.. When I try to open the tail gate, one side won't unlatch. When I pull the latch to open, I see that both rods move to open , right side unlatches but left side doesn't. I've tried to pull/push on the side of the truck while pulling the latch to release but it still won't open. Any ideas of what I can try? Ty, Deb

Remove the inspection plate on the inside of the gate if you can and see whats up.

You could try squirting some lube in there. Maybe there is enough room to get a screwdriver in that one side and push the lever open
