What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

Well I've been thinking about getting coilovers for the front now to level it out, and build the rest of the lift later. At least I'd have the coilovers up front as a good starting point and wouldn't need to run a spacer.

Question is..

Icon, Fox, King, or Toytec?

 

whats your budget? id go with the toytec lifts BOSS kit @MADSTEEZE best kit for that price point.

 

Yeah that kit looks good. Has a comparison between the coilovers been done already? Actually no need to answer, I'm capable of searching.

I haven't really set up a budget yet. More a matter of setting aside $ specifically for this and justifying it to the lady. haha

Definitely a lot that I plan on doing. Feel like a lift should be first. Then wheels and larger tires. After that is armor.

Any tips, advice, comments would be welcome. I'm looking for performance, not just looks. I know the price is vastly different. Is it worth it?

 

I'm not sure if this was covered here but when you get a higher end coilovers such as Icon and Fox shocks, why not switch out the springs that came with shock and add longer progressive springs like EMU 887? This will eliminate the need to load too much on the spring to get that lift with out the rough ride. Any one try this setup? Just my 2 cents..

 

Your going to get a well tuned setup with the BOSS kit and more parts to complete the lift. The 5100 kit does not come with springs and to my knowledge Bilstein has not yet released the 2016 5100 shock yet that will work with the factory springs.

 

Because ICON and FOX tune the shock and spring to work together. If you change the spring there is no telling how the ride will be. Also you might loose your warranty from ICON or FOX.

 

Agree with gramps but I would be interested in reading about it if someone tested it out. The ome 886 spring would be 660lb vs 650lb of the icon and about 2 inches longer. Icon also offers 700lb springs that are about an inch longer than there 650lb. I believe that's still and inch short of the 886s and a very heavy spring. Seems like 886s could be a good option for those running extra weight but not enough to warrant 700lb springs. Then again I have no idea how longer springs would effect the valving in the shocks as they are designed to run optimally as they come?

 

I ran those tires (E rated) for about 3000 clicks and noticed about a 15 mile hit each tank (mixed use driving).

 

That doesn't seem like much. I'm heavily debating going to an E rated tire, waiting to be talked into getting the tire size I want because most only come in E rating.

 

Yeah I was surprised too. I use same station too for every fill up.
I think highway mileage (road trips) would be more heavily affected. I can't say for sure because I only ran one tank about 2/3 all highway and it seemed a decent hit.
That would be my only reason not to get them if I had to go E again . But if you don't run road trips every month i think you'll be ok.

 

Help needed. I'm going to take delivery of my 2016 tacoma in a few days. I've had a 2005 and 2010 each with a lift and 285 tires. I like the look but don't really offroad much. The 2005 setup was coil over and add-a-leaf and as I recall was a couple of grand. The 2010 was around a thousand and was a 3 inch lift but I don't remember brand. Ride was good but recently developed some front end problems that I don't know if were due to that or not. Right around 100,000 miles.

So, I've researched the threads and online and am looking for a good lift that fits the following. Would allow up to 285 without trimming. Lift that doesn't require cutting, trimming, etc. Rides good and reasonable cost. I don't want to go the route of the $500 spacer and block lift but don't think I need UCAs, coil overs, etc. Somewhere in the middle. Maybe 850 - 1,200. I've looked at OME, Toytec, Boss, BDS, and a bunch of others. Thanks for any help.

 

Just ordered the Bilstein 5100 kit for my truck. I've heard some people say it works great despite the spring change from '15 to '16. I'm going to find out one way or another. Will post pictures and let you know how I think it does!

That looks Red! What setting on that CO and how much lift you getting?

 

@fastxturtle the BOSS suspension doesn't have settings per say, you crank them up or down with a spanner wrench on those threads visible just below the top plate. He would have had to take before and after measurements to let you know what kind of lift he is achieving with that setup.

 

Sorry I meant to ask how much preload measurement on that CO tread to see how much lift you can get. I'm trying to decide what lift system I should get.

 

I'm looking for about 2 inches of lift for my two wheel drive but want to retain my stock ride quality. I also need the extra height while I'm hunting. What are your suggestions?
PS This is my first two wheel drive because my wife talked me into saving a couple Grand.

I have been searching the forums for someone who has done the Rough Country Level kit for the front end. But it appears that no one has done one, and retained the stock rims and tires. I'm not looking to get tires yet, just a hare more clearance on the front end. Also, I loathe the front end rake....Anyone done this and runnin stock rims and tires?
