Be thankful your sales tax was only 300 dollars. The great state of mississippi needed about 2000 dollars sales tax on my new tacoma then I can go buy a tag for it and give them some more tax.

I went to two dealers and they would not budge off msrp but Kearny mesa toyota in San Diego gave me 1600 off my trd sport double cab with tow pkg and folding lockable tonneau cover that had a 33264 msrp. They were the only ones in SD who actually had one. They also gave me a great deal on my trade a 2014 Sr5 double cab that truck cost me 28700 2 years ago,It had 32000 miles and they gave me 24000.They were also very nice to deal with. Juniachi Kuniyoshi was my sale guy and Bilal Mehboob was sales manager. If you live in or near San Diego Try them first.I hope this info is helpful to anyone.

I paid $38k OTD for my Sport 4x4 with prem/tech upgrade, tonneau and tint/zytek bullshit. I also got mine a couple weeks after they came out and they weren't budging. I got it a week later, didn't have to wait like so many others. Eh well, the $2k or so more we spent will be forgotten soon enough!

Picked my 2016 DC TRD Sport up today rom Gullo Toyota in Conroe, TX for 33,800 drive out. It came with protection film, predator tubes, tow package and floor mats. Drive from San Antonio to pick it up. The best price I could get in SA was 35,022.

Southern California is really tough to get a deal right now. I got offered 500 off MSRP a couple of places and actually was let leave because they would not do better than 500 off. I ended up buying in Hanford (Central CA) for 800 off MSRP. They delivered it but that was just a coincidence and not part of my deal. 2WD white limited.

The big goose egg in NH buddy!! NO TAX

I paid $500 over invoice (when I got my gen 2). And they had to order my truck, so don't let anyone tell you they can't make money on that.

Lets Clarify something for everyone. Toyota does not allow dealers to order inventory. Period. Dealers are allowed to "preference" specific model codes and options on those models, but that is as far as it goes. This only means, "IF" Toyota builds what you have preferenced than they will "TRY" to send it to you. That is really as good as it gets. Other than that the only way to get what a customer is looking for is to trade with another dealer that is willing to give up that truck for one that the requesting dealer has in inventory. Sometimes with unique models dealers aren't willing to trade them out for a less desirable model.

Toyota is so far behind on production right now they are prioritizing the models, trims and options they feel are in the highest demand to the largest consumer base. I know we all want manual 4x4 Long Bed Double Cabs but that isn't what the general target audience for the midsize truck market is looking for. Sad but true.

So to be fair, more often than not it isn't a matter of a dealer being "too lazy" to get the Tacoma you want. It truly is in some markets like the West Coast, impossible to sell you a truck Toyota has not built(for that region) or its impossible to get that unicorn Tacoma you want from another dealer.

Patients is a virtue, and my recommendation is to sit down with a dealer you feel comfortable with and look through their incoming Tacoma list. If you find what you want just about all the dealers will take a deposit and put your name on it. These lists go as far out as 8-10 weeks of inbound inventory. Pricing on the west coast is going to be MSRP or very close on 4x4's and possibly slightly better on 4x2's. Other markets will be much easier to get the deal you are hoping for. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Don't hate the players, hate the game. Supply and demand affect the price. If you are able to purchase a Tacoma with your hard earned money than at some level your industry thrives on this theory as well or you would be unemployed.

@drewhill0207 While I do understand what you are saying, dealers can submit orders and try to switch out an allocated truck to what they order. That's how I got my truck. I ordered a DCSB TRD OR with M/T and the Prem/Tech package. That specific build is not available in the region that I'm in. I called several dealers back in August letting them know I wanted to order a truck, and all but one said they either couldn't or wouldn't do it. The one that did got me the exact truck I wanted.
The M/T and Prem/Tech combo was not available in my region. It still isn't. I sat down with the general manager of my local dealership behind a computer and built the truck I wanted. I was able to select from every configuration and build option with any accessories I wanted. As long as Toyota built that truck in some region, it was able to be ordered. My specific truck was only to be allocated in regions on the west coast. I still got it in the mid atlantic region and I haven't seen another truck like it.
If Toyota builds the variation of the truck you want, your dealer should be able to get it for you. It takes a lot of work, believe me, and I think that's why some dealers aren't willing to go through the trouble. It's easier to sell you something already on their lot or something they already have on the way than trying to order what you specifically want.
