Yeah me either... At least not in my truck!

Doubt whoever left this on the trail was having much fun that day...

Kinda ironic that the slogan on top of his windshield says "Never Give Up"...

And this section definitely looked a little sticky...

Holy Hell! alright, I'm trying to decide on a final route for this trip I'm trying to take. Still haven't decided 100% if I want to stay in Tate branch campground because I've just read it can get crowded. I do want to hit some sort of trail on my way up before it gets too dark. Does Charlie's creek rd have any camping off it? I don't care about comfort, it's just me and a buddy this time. I want to hit Tray mountain on my way back down to ATL. Any Ideas?

Charlie's has camping, but I've never done it. I'd go Charlies then camp at Tray. There are good places on both sides of it to camp at

Right on man. I can't get over how awesome this community is. Can't wait to be able to start giving advice about places like y'all. I have been over to Jones Creek Campground and liked that spot. I'm sure Tray's mountain will be a little different. I appreciate all the help man!

Jones Creek is a nice little area. No place to get stuck really and tons of camping. Tray is fine not on the Chimney side for 2WDs

I've heard "Not the Chimney side" Many times. Which road is that off!? I've been up one side of Tray many many years ago when a family friend had a cabin up there and it wasn't too bad. I believe it was the road right off 75 right next to a river. That's pretty much all I remember. I just want to avoid that awful Chimney Side with my 2wd.

Chimney side is off Chimney Mountain rd... It is the eastern access of Tray Mtn rd. Chimney Mtn road is off of the road that Unicoi Lodge is on, I believe.

I did just watch a youtube video from 4/10/16. They said they went up Chimney ridge and it didn't look that bad or is that the camera lying?

You sure it was the correct side? With you not being 4WD me personally, I wouldn't do it

    Whoosh, right over my head.

Yeah, and since I'm not familiar with the area, I'll take your advice. I think we're gonna hit Jones creek campground friday night because we may be getting there at dark and don't want any surprises. then make our way through Coopers and Grassy gap, then make the trek over to Tray mountain for and have fun there till we set up camp. This is my first time planning a trip like this. Most likely gonna save Charlie's creek and everything until I at least get the Bilsteins

My god the route planning is finally finished. Now to stock up on beer, beef, bourbon, and bud. I appreciate all the help guys. I don't want to embarrass myself just yet but when I'm able to put more aftermarket parts on, I'll be able to join y'all for some trips hopefully. Mine is just way too stock to hit some of the places y'all do for now. I'll post on here when I run everything by my buddy's and let y'all know when and where. Maybe we can have some tagalongs on some easy trails.

I think this has been linked elsewhere in the tread, but be sure to check this out:

    https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zAXyjc-yXFOw.kS16CJNOulMk&authuser=0&hl=en

Not sure how it views on a mobile, but it's an interactive Google Map showing trail locations throughout the state. It'll be helpful when you get to your trail route planning.

That's actually what I used. I saw that link in another forum or somewhere. Thanks! I used that map along with this one http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd474945.pdf

TL;DR: get out there and wheel!

Just a little bump to this thread: Going up the Chimney side IS possible in 2wd. @Traviste and I ran it that way w/o even touching the transfer case or locker. Just have to pick good lines and use momentum to your advantage.

Bell, IMO, is possible without sliders, without getting rocker damage, as long as you pick the right line and/or have a good spotter! I will say though, that ~75% of Bell has been graded in preparation for it to be made into a tourist attraction and all vehicles will be able to make it.

I've been reading through this thread some today though and it seems like a lot of y'all are eager to get into off-roading, but are a little timid about which trails to run whether it be lack of experience or rig capabilities. First of all, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with this at all, I'm just extremely glad that y'all are still getting out and enjoying y'all's trucks! Secondly, and this is purely my personal view, you're gonna get pinstripes, dents, dings, trail damage, etc and to me each one is its own story, or a battle scar to be worn proudly, don't be too scared to get a few, or you'll end up never goin' out and testing your abilities or your rig's! Lastly, and possibly most importantly, if you can help it, don't go alone, even if it is the bunny trails. You never know what could happen and it's always a safe bet to have a buddy with you in case something happens! Plus there's the added benefit of sharing good times with a good friend or new friend!

With all of that being said, who would be interested in a "training" or "beginner" wheeling/camping trip up on some of the trails here in Georgia? Something super laid back, nothing official, but we'd go over recovery type stuff, choosing lines, different techniques and what not?

TL;DR: get out there and wheel!

I'm definitely up for a beginner course! I've been itching to take my Taco off-road since I got it but I've got 2 major reservations - no experience, and absolutely NO desire to take on any damage. In a couple years I might be more of your mindset on the battle scar approach, but right now it's still fresh and clean and I'm not ready for any permanent reminders of a weekend trip ; )
