Is there a way to test it besides replacing it?

Your starter and starter connections good?.

A multitester with a continuity setting will allow you to check the fuses that are hard to see or that you are not sure of. Just cause you can see the full melt wire inside the fuse does not mean that it is good. Granted it is a very rare occasion that a fuse that looks good is not good,,but it has happened in the past.

Finally got it towed to the mechanic. Turns out the main fuse was blown. This mechanic in particular is an old friend and charged me $1.45 for it.

So for anybody in the future experiencing these symptoms, no start no crank, headlights and door chime work but no radio, it might be the main fuse.

Word. Thanks everyone for the input.

    Thanx for posting the solution.
Do you recall which 'main' fuse was blown? Was it the 40amp (or 80a, 30a ) ?

No, I'll ask and post it. Having the mechanic straighten out some other issues too, so I'll post the info next week when I talk to him.

    Cool deal.

Did you end up getting a new battery?, because that Interstate was probably good.

    40 amp main fuse.
Still rockin the interstate in the tacoma. Wife's tundra got a fresh wal mart battery. And I got a fresh $1000 1999 Corolla for a commuter car while the tacoma was down. Now I can put the mud terrains back on the Tacoma and the miles on the Corolla! Happy ending I guess. It's nice to have the truck back though. Thanks again.
