Off road axle in a sport

    I might have access to an off road axle soon and was wondering about putting it in my sport for the locker. I eventually want to get ARBs but for the next couple years this would seem like a great option. Has anyone done this? I've looked briefly but can't decide if the wiring for it is there or not?

    WWWAAAAAAAYYYYYYY easier. Go straight to ARBs - way easier and cheaper than putting elocker on a non elocker truck. Also, your Sport diff is stronger than the Offroad diff.

    I forget the details. They both have an 8" diff, but it has something to do with accomodating the elocker...let me se if I can find it...

    First search to come up...

    This diff commonly and mistakenly called an 8.4" or 8.25" diff, possibly to imply its extra strength. The ring gear actually measures 8". The extra strength of this diff comes from the bearing cap/truss and large diameter pinion gear shaft.

    So has anyone ever looked into this? The cost for me (without checking on the wiring expense) would definitely be cheaper than the ARB

    Are the gears even the same ratio?
    If they aren't just go ARB or wait and go ARB...

    If you had to regear the elocker to match your front end then it doesn't make sense to me to do it. Regearing is expensive and I'm about to do it the second time. Costly mistake lol. Just do it once and wait for what you really want.

    If you have access to the whole rear end it would be a no brainer as you can easily wire up the E-locker lots of info on the web about this. Keep the stock rear end and when you want to go to an ARB put it in the stronger Sport rear end. Otherwise, save your $$$ and do the arb in the sport rear end.

    go with the ARB. Putting the elocker 3rd in a non elocker axle requires modification... putting the full elocker axle in the non elocker truck requires all sorts of wiring.

    and like stated the physical ring gears at the same 8in diameter. BUT the non elocker is commonly referred to the 8.4 for what ever reason. The 8.4 is technically stronger as it has cradle caps over the main bearings and has 10 bolt ring gear to diff connection vs 8 of the elocker.

    Unless you got a clean elocker rear axle for free - 100 bucks, just go the arb.
