Although what you say is mostly true, I hate buying jewelry for anybody including myself. I just think its a waste of money. Instead, surprise her with something romantic that she would not forget. Take the extra step and plan something out... give it some thought. Only you can determine what she would like because none of us know her. Buying a diamond is just materialistic at best. Any schmo can do that.

Easiest thing to do is call a friend of hers or even her mom (if thats an option) and explain to them you want to get her something nice. They will know what she likes/dislikes. My mother in law is always helping me out by saying my wife mentioned wanting this or that!!!

I have always wondered. Why do you have to BUY your girl jewlelry to show you CARE for her? Just what the commercials WANT you to think. If you dont, you dont care... or your cheap?? Do you guys think your girl dont care for you if she doesn't buy you a diamond for your birthday or Christmas. ((sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. goes back to when girl I was dating insisted on 2 full carrots, no less... door hit her in ass on the way out!))

buying a diamond is materialistic? thanks for calling me a schmo, 10 bucks says your single, and if you're not then you are lucky.

no one said you HAVE to buy a girl jewlery to show you care. but being able to pick out something that you feel she might like will show you put enough time and thought into something for her. he asked for opinions and i gave one. yeah you do not have to give a girl jewelry to show you care, but they like jewelry. by the way, was your ex bugs bunnies sister, because 2 full CARROTS really isnt asking much. 2 full CARATS on the other hand is asking alot, shouldnt be that picky.

some girls dont like jewelry, so hence dont buy them any. but if a girl likes jewelry, i dont see the problem in buying her something SMALL for the OP's case.

My friend, you can keep your ten bucks. You are quite young and have many experiences ahead of you. My posts stem from MY experiences with more girlfriends than years that you have been alive.

I was not calling you a schmo but if I made you feel that way... maybe you bought into those commercials just the way they want you to.

The 2 full carrots was not a monetary issue rather than a "buy ME" issue. She basically put a price on her love which in my view made her no better that a hooker.

I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but how about asking her? I know, i know it ruins the surprise but at least she'll get something she likes. I do it all the time and it really works. That way there are no disapointments
