Did you leave tires on truck to dip?

I left them on and taped the tires just like you would in any painting job. I put a plastic bag in behind the rims to cover the caliper and drums, and had rubber caps that I stuck over the lug nuts. Although they say its easy to peal off, the same sharp edges that make it easy to peal off, equally make it a bitch to get off the tire them selves ( all those nooks & carnies). take the time to tape. 1 tire took me 3 1/2 hours to get the rubber off (ended up using a piece of rubber garden hose griped in each hand & scrubbing back & forth). thank god I only tried that on one tire. hard lesson learned fast,

This is probably a stupid question but Ive never used plastidip before so will the plastidipped rims get damaged when you get new tires put on? I want to try this but also will be needing new tires soon...

I would get the tires first. Some people have had the tires put on after they did the rims and the tires installer was very careful but I would wait till after you put the tires on

They came off of gundrills that I use at work. I bet if you wander through the local Home Depot's plumbing department you probably could come up with something as creative

I was just thinking that might look good on my inferno after I did the grill... Did you paint the scoop on the truck or take it off?

Took it off ... THAT was easy ... the grill disassembly was a bit lengthy.

It seems easy to make the scoop functional.

Looking to plasti dip my grill on 16 off road Tacoma. My wheel moldings are unpainted and look more like a dark gray next to black painted body. Has anyone looked at the dark gray plasti dip (charcoal gray) as a better color match? I've noticed most use the matte black with glossifier. I'm thinking of using dark gray with glossifier to also match original TRD wheels and molding. Will also be plasti dipping emblems same dark gray. What do you guys think?

First attempt at Plasti Dipping my grill.....pulled it all off and will redo next week. It had a fuzzy appearance...after more reading, I apparently held the can too far away and it dried while in the air which resulted in the fuzz. Damn shame as it was looking good and non fuzzy around the 4 coat mark. I guess I lost my groove. In answering the question above, I used Dark Grey Plasti Dip and it does not look as good as black. I have a MGM colored vehicle.

While reading up on it, I stumbled across this on another forum and am wondering if anyone has tried it.

"This is what I did and been driving for a week with NO chips!!!

Wipe all grease off grill with grease remover, spray on 5 coats of plastidip, with 10-20 min between each coat, after the last coat wait ten min then start spraying 4-5 coats of whatever color paint you want, with 10 min in between each coat, clear if you want after that (I didn't since spray paint is semi gloss and matches my black paint)

The plastidip mixes with the paint and makes a super hard chip resistant surface, I don't know how it will be after a month or whatever, but driving behind semi trucks and no chips here!

I redid my front lip this way and after a week of highway driving NO chips!!! "

Just tried the gray and after about 6 or 6 coats I decided I didn't like it either. Spraying over it in black now figure it will just be on there thick!

Your wheels came out looking really nice. I am going to give mine a try this weekend... One thing I can't figure out is what to do with the inner where behind the spokes. Am I supposed to spray in all around behind, or tape and cover leaving it the factory grey color?

Dipped my grill today. Had to wait a while for the temps to warm up, but finally got a sunny Saturday and decided to give it a shot.
