From what I understand being over geared means more power off the line, but reving higher at higher speeds

yeah I hear ya, I'm in 4L almost all the time even when others are in 4H unless it's a high speed section... just because of that...

exactly... just means your motor is doing more work to accomplish the same ground speed

That's one thing I hate, all the other guys are going a lot faster than me because I need to slow down so I don't stall and to have a good ride. It sucks

Hmmm, if I go 295's I may go 4.88s then

yeah, I'm done with Manual after this truck. I'm over the "I'm a MAN I drive MANUAL" mindset... nothing to prove anymore. Auto is so much more comfortable to drive on/off road, for the shit I'm doing. and being able to let my GF drive if she wants would be nice (or if I'm injured)

I hear ya, we had a build 98 4runner with an auto. Just feels more comfortable to drive. But on the highway a 5 speed would kill an auto

Well shit after using that calculator it says 4.33s will be fine so 4.56s will be over-geared just a bit. I think I'll stay at 4.56s then.

I like manual because that's all I have driven, wouldn't get an auto unless it's a DD and I'm stuck in traffic everyday.

Also helps if someone tries and breaks into your car, can't steal it if they can't drive it

Mine too and I deal with traffic for work 3 days a week and it sucks, but it's not stop and go, its more of go slow and then stop. Hills do suck, I'm always having to slow down ha. But I enjoy it, I just go first on trails and make my friends behind me go slow haha
