Just curious to see what other taco drivers got out of their trucks. how many miles till you had to replace your clutch and/or alternator? I drive a 2010 4 cyl, 5 lug, MT w/ 111,000 miles on it.

4 cyl, 6 lug, 4x4 AC - I bought mine new in 09 and now have 108,000 miles on it with no issues with my clutch or alternator since. From what I understand the clutch issues depends on what brand you won when you purchased your truck because there doesn't seem to be any official list to know what production had which clutches.

I'm not sure which i have but i know my clutch squeeks like crazy. iv'e tried twisting the plunger underneath, spraying WD40 and nothing gets it quiet. Recently its just felt a little off like it's not engaging fully.

is it squeaking in the cab? If its outside the cab take the boot off on the bell housing and spray some lithium grease or something on the clutch fork. Made mine quiet for a while I have to re do it every know and then but no big deal.

2011 4cyl Acc cab with 117k mi or so on it. Original clutch and alternator. Clutch squeaks when being depressed but that's it. I don't know how long it will last. I've smelt it a few times. Mostly when I first got it as I hadn't driven anything in three years and had been a almost ten years since I had driven a manual. It also sees quite a bit of work off road sometimes.

I queried the local Toyoata dealer on questions like these. I never owned a Toyota before nor have I ever owned a 4X4 before. Didn't think to ask about the clutch but my 2004 4X4 RC has 143,000 and no clutch problems. I had the same questions so I asked the service manager at our local dealer when I was in there one time. Alternator? He said he has worked at the dealer for 10 years and has only replaced about 10 alternators. U-Joints? He just shook his head no and said he doesn't even stock them because they never need to replace them. CV boots? He shook his head no and said the only ones he's replaced were damaged in some way. Starter? He said "once in a while". When I changed my anti-freeze I wanted to replace the heater hoses and the upper and lower radiator hoses along with the thermostat. They tried to talk me out of buying any of it because "those parts are all good for the life of the vehicle". I did get the thermostat and radiator hoses to have them around. The truck had 130,000 on it at the time and I replaced the belts. When I took them off they pretty much seemed like new. I bought this truck form my dad. The original owner with 119,000 on it. It has had a battery and water pump replacement and one brake job since it was new. Everything else is original. I'll replace the starter and battery around 150,000 just to be on the safe side. Where I live in Wyoming I'd rather replace a part before it wears out that be stuck outside when it's -15 10 miles from a paved road or even 5 miles from home for that matter.
The service manager finally told me that he didn't even know if there was a 2.7 Taco in our area because none of them has ever come in for repair. He said I've probably got one of the most maintenance free vehicles ever made and so far, in the last 20,000+ miles I've had it he's right. He's right as far as the first 119,000 as well except for the battery and the water pump which was replaced under warranty.
