LOL!!! Finishing up breakfast and taking care of my mom while you were posting!!! LOL!!! That shi- was funny Ron!!!

It MIGHT be that it is freq "notched"?! It may need the software unlock??? I don't know??? I just recently found that out from @dtaco06 Danny about expanding the freq on the Boefengs.

OR... THAT!!! What range are we talking about???!!! You can't expect a handheld to TX miles on end without a repeater being involved!!! Plus, again, you have to take into consdideration that TX'ing from within a vehicle will drastically cut down on TX range!!!

Then it sounds as if it is an "off banding" problem?! Try this as a TEST, the 2meter band for actual "HAM" is 144-148MHz, so set the radio to 144.600 and have someone else set their radio to the same freq, press the PTT, and say something real quick... "THIS IS A TEST". Hopefully you will hear your TX operation on the other radio. If you do, then the radio is literally only for 2m\70cm (144-148\420-450MHz) freq band... actual HAM bands!!! My Yaesu 2m does the same thing. Setting the radio out of its 2m range is known as "off banding" and is illegal to do and A HIGHLY EXPENSIVE FINE, $10,000 w\ possible 5yrs jail!!! They WILL do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, you were able to go Kyle, AWESOME!!!

Anybody seen the new point break movie? Thinking of renting it. I loved the OG one, wondering if the new version sucks in comparison.

Whoops lol. It worked perfectly on the trail, it was definately that stiff spring that was making the mount move around. On the trail the antenna was moving around with not problems whatsoever

    That'd be a great rig

Hey we're in the same boat lol

We were little standing next to each other when we tested it. I could receive & hear everyone just couldnt send out whatsoever. Luckily Dustin had a spare so I borrowed that but something is definately up with it

    See post# 20026 just above

    To anyone:
The radio is telling you to get a real HAM license!!! It is most likely NOT able to do "off-band" freq? NOT hard to get a license and it last 10yrs or more if you just keep updating it! I can tell you that it definitely would have helped if someone else besides me had a HAM license in Anza!!!!!!!! I could have gotten ahold of the camp using the repeater site near Cuyamaca FROM Huntington Beach!!!!!!! OR, when you got split from the group and people at camp was worried and trying to get ahold of the "lost group"! It turned out okay, but was a major CF at that point-in-time AND made the group\people wait on hitting the next trail run!!! You can NEVER predict a particular outcome is my point and having potential problems IN the desert is NO joke!!! But hey, it is your life and not mine if that becomes the case!!! Yet, people choose to use "off-band" and someday just MIGHT regret it when slapped with a "nice bill" and then wonder why!!!

Hahaha, just realized something as well, if you really WANT communications, then as the saying goes, "you gotta pay to play!" A HAM license is not hard to get, it's cheap to get, lasts for 10yrs (more if you keep updating it and you don't have to retake the TEST), EXTREMELY good range because of repeater sites, you don't have to text all the time (just pick up the MIC and talk), and is basically FREE communications!!! When on the trail, simply switch over to CB for shorter range communications and not have to worry about any repeaters and all that!

Finally, just realized something, WHY in the hell are people getting HAM radios and NOT the GMRS radios that you can buy at Fry's or other places?! You are going to get about the same range as you are now AND you don't have to worry about what freq someone is on, other than the channel! Those are actually great for car-to-car communications AND you don't need a license for it (well, technically you do actually, but it is NOT monitored)! Overall, even cheaper than a CB setup!

30mi on dirt, correct? If memory serves, you did "Saddleback" or something like that about a week ago? If it is supposed to be on dirt, then 30mi ON dirt is quite a workout!!! Very nice!!!

To be fair, it was going to be a somewhat easier ride. Climb halfway up Saddlecrack and then back down, riding in dirt all the way to San Juan Capistrano where there is an overflow runoff thing that is paved for a couple miles to the beach.
