I heard my first Prince song when I was in the 7th grade, I Wanna Be Your Lover. One of my friends bought his album to music class and every since then he was my favorite artist! That was 36 - 37 years ago! I'm 48 and I have tons of his music on cd's, my iPod, my hard drive, my streams.. you get the picture!

Yes, Sir, when you get pass his wild looks and clothing he was truly a talented musician. I saw him in concert and was just blown away by his musical gifts...just blown away!!

RIP Prince thanks for ALL the good times, especially for the background music while making love!!!!

couldnt agree more, if you were in your teens or 20's in the 80's, he made an impact on you. Might be a generational thing? great music he made, darling nikki was on iheart this am on the ride in to work, stuck in my head now, not the worst thing  Nikki started to Grind.......

Yea. What's weird is I was listening to slayer, megadeth, metalica and all the heavy hair bands of the 80's as well.
My musical diversity was over the top in the 80's. Lol

Honestly to me Prince was (like others have said) a generational thing. I started playing guitar at 14 and Prince was a influence on me. Not as much as David Gilmour but still the dude could shred. I "personally" liked his style and I respected that he wanted control over the things that "he" created. And he was just a damn good artist. Sure he had some weird quirks but don't we all?

Mine still is. I "think" I saw every major act to come through town (sadly not Prince) in the 80's and early 90's. Everyone from who you mentioned to Robert Cray, Soundgarden, PJ, to our local philharmonic. There isn't much music I don't like and my tastes are pretty wide ranging. Of course there are artists I don't care for (you can't like everyone) but I like to think I'm open enough to give every type of music a chance. I'll always gravitate toward acoustic guitar since that is what I've played for 31 years and the guitar is my personal favorite instrument. Add to that, that's the only instrument I'm slightly proficient at. I have to work to play guitar though. I'm not gifted enough to come up with a song and arrange it, I can just emulate. I wish I was gifted enough to do that but that will continue to be my wish.

oh yes............. I have many quirks. I am not talking about his quirks but to see Obama and company play purple rain in London, movie theaters showing the movie, and until a few days ago every news cast was talking about him. I just wondered if this is just not the politically correct thing to do because of his race and "quirks" or what. Yes I realize he was very talented but there are many others who were too, that didn't get the exposure.

I don't "personally" see it that way. The same thing happened when Bowie passed away. I was a fan though so I'm biased. You may not have been a fan and that's cool... But he did have an undeniable impact on the music industry. I "personally" agreed with many of his points of view though that isn't why I was a fan. I was a fan because he was unbelievably talented and could play the guitar like I only wish I could. There wasn't much "musically" that he did that I didn't like. So as a fan I'll miss that.
