    I was working at a Ford dealership when the tailgate steps came out on Super Duties. One morning we came in to find twenty something missing. Apparently, everyone that wasn't locked. I believe the perps were caught though after posting several Craigslist ads.

    Sorry to hear OP. Hope you have a low deductible and you could look into aftermarket or custom solutions.

    Did you have a locking tailgate? Mine has a keyed lock in the handle and was just wondering if mine was still vulnerable to theft. The soft tonneau cover helps restrict access also, even if only a little bit.

    Sorry. It just made me laugh that someone would think that. A moderately dull steak knife or a fair pocket knife won't even know a soft cover is in the way. Not that the soft cover protects anything regarding the gate anyway.

    And a pop n lock is pretty worthless if the thief is prepared a bit, and not just a casual opportunist.

    Agree. If they want in, they are going to get in. Just slowing down the time is really what we are doing. Hopefully to give you enough time to flick the safety to "off". :devil:

    This is how I fixed it. Simple and cheap. It's a sleeve that fits over the hinge. No more removeable tailgate.

    It's PVC pipe painted with bedliner but could be made of metal. I think it would be easier for a theif to unbolt the hinge than try to cut through the pipe so I didn't make it out of metal. Installed by unbolting the hinge, placing the sleeve over the hinge then bolting the hinge back onto the truck. I do not want or need to remove my tailgate so this works for me. Total cost was $0 cause I had the paint and pipe sitting in the garage from previous projects.

    :eek: Wow. On camera, and in a 2 minute time-frame? Unbelievable. One day they will get caught by the wrong guy. Happened in my area. The owner caught a kid breaking into his work truck stealing all the tools. The report said that the owner tied him up in his basement. Serious.
    I thought Alberta was the pickup truck capital. People who come here say "Wow, I've never seen so many trucks in my life." For every 10 vehicles you see, 8-9 are trucks. Yet this rarely happens, and it doesn't even cross my mind as a concern.
