Hey Coloradoans( is that a word?)

Can you guys give me some ideas of some dispersed camping areas within a couple or three hour of Denver???
Trip is planned for June 25th, the weekend before the 4th of July.
Don't need to do any crazy wheeling, just want to get away from crowded camp sites and use the 4WD a little. We will have two packed Tacos and one Wrangler.

Ideas anyone? Please help a brother out.

We've talked about Jones Pass Road and places down in Cuchara. Don't know much else.

Werd...in that case, 3 hours within Denver provides too many places you could go, you need to narrow down a general location. Would you rather stay N.W., W., S., S.W., or would you rather stay out of Co and do something in the Snowy Range up in S. Wyoming?

The locals don't even camp the weekend's before during or after the 4th.

it's ridiculous packed here in the North. Around that time a few areas have opened up around the Deadman area and it turns into a full on RV park everywhere you go.
I still go up and wheel, fish, etc, but camping...it's quieter in town, less generators and fireworks going off.

See I love both types of camping so when I take out the toy hauler I go to places where tent campers do not go. And vice Versa when I want to tent camp I don't go to areas easily accessible to the large campers.

that's what I'm gonna enjoy about the RTT... go much further than most "tent campers" in their soccer mom SUV's but not as far as the back packers. and WAY THE HELL AWAY from the RV's lol

I'd say W or SW?! Maybe. Arapahoe area or like I said Cuchara.
Needs to be in Colorado within 3ish hours of Denver because I'm meeting up with family and we are looking for something in that area.

I know it's a broad area to ask about but I was hoping you guys knew of some gems to check out especially for dispersed camping. Would love to by a nice creek or river for some fly fishing.

That is a cute, idea. That pass will so be closed. haha

That being said, I need to do sunshine and redcloud...

Anything in the high country may still be inaccessible at that point. All depends on the last snow.

Cuchara will probably be your best bet. Collegiate will be full, as will anything in arapahoe NF or roosevelt NF. Deckers/tarryall may have room, but it will be a party. I can tell you now there wont be much for established campground camping either way.

I'm not familiar with anything around that area, that's not to say there isn't...I just don't know. Maybe check this website out and you should find plenty of info on dispersed camping, just move the map around to area's you think you might like to go
