I know there are Go Pro experts here. If you are a knowledgable owner and user of Go Pro equipment please tell me what is the best bang for the buck on these cameras. Target has a Hero on sale now for 150$, 1080p60 video and 8MP photos. Is this a good entry level unit or not preferred? All info appreciated.

I have been using the original GoProHD since 2009? Does 1080p without a hitch. Never thought of buying a new one until this one craps out. So my opinion, it depends on the bells and whistles you want to go with it but if you just want video, get the best deal you can find.

Its really whatever is convenient for you. I've owned quite a few GoPro's and film a lot with GoPros. https://www.youtube.com/user/yfzdrag3

If you're wanting professional quality, or just something to film with. If you need more frames per second (For higher speed things or slow mo) or just your basic filming. It really just depends on what you are filming and what you are trying to get out of it. What are you mainly filming with it? Are you going to do any post production editing or just work with video you are recording?

Thanks for the quick responses. Believe it not I have never owned a video camera. I have shot some video with my Canon digital SLR and pocket cameras with reasonable results. So I am a total novice. Would for 150 bucks the Hero I mentioned on sale at Target be a good place to start? I don't see myself using advanced modes, effects, editing etc.. Just wondering if spending more on a different model would be advisable.

Just doing a quick search on the GoPro Hero and you can find it $30-$40 cheaper than that sale price. Also Target is showing $119 on their site. And yes I would think it is a good starter camera. You can always resale for 3/4s of what you paid to invest in a new one. I would suggest getting a 64g+ sd card though if you are going to run 1080p60fps.

I have the GoPro Hero (Cheapest entry level one) and the GoPro Session. I find myself using the Session a lot more. Couple of my buddies have the Hero 4 Silver and they said they wanted the LCD screen but honestly there is really no use for the screen (at least for me). Point the lens in the direction that you want it and it picks up everything so the "I need the screen to make sure it gets in the shot" is invalid.

I pull the SD card out and put it in my phone (Galaxy S7 Edge) to review all videos. I like the smaller of the cameras.

Also Target has the Hero for $119 right now.

The MP you arent really going to see a difference. Honestly the entry level still has pretty amazing quality.

Buy cheap to see if you are actually going to use it then sell and upgrade in a year. You may find that you want to video everything now but in 6 months you never touch the thing.

Checked the prices, the model I was looking at has wi-fi that's why it's 149 instead of 119. Another question, is the wi-fi ability worth it? I would think it would be convenient for downloading.

Wifi feature is nice to view video from the camera to your phone. Downloading content its faster to either plug the camera in or swap the SD card into a card reader.

You definitely want wifi for the little extra $. Much easier to review and control your camera.
