hi. I'm looking to pull the trigger on a 2005 double cab. I have two kids that will be in this truck for trips and weekend fun. How can I tell if this truck has side curtain airbags? I looked and didn't see any above the back windows. Would it be below?

I'm starting to wonder if I should look for a newer truck.

2005 tacos don't have side airbags. Later second gens do, but I'm not sure what year that started.

FWIW I don't have any reservations putting my girls in my 2005.

how is your 05 doing? I have a deal on the table for an 05 dclb trd sport with 113k miles for $14k. Runs great, maintenance records, upgraded wheels, super clean in and out.

researched the side airbags became standard in 09.

Mine has a little airbag tab where a grab handle would be for the front door. The 05 did get excellent crash test ratings, but if you are set on side curtains I can certainly understand that.

It's been bullet proof reliable. It hasn't needed anything but routine maintenance. It only has 90k on it. I just upgraded the stereo and put new tires on it. I plan to keep it a while longer. Eventually I'll replace it with a Tundra Crewmax when my girls get bigger. I'd like for our family of five to fit in the truck.

I was in a pretty serious roll over accident last year. The curtain airbags are what kept me out of the hospital and let me get away with just needing outpatient shoulder surgery.
My F250 doesn't have them. If I had kids I'd probably be upgrading the truck. I'm very happy my Tacoma has them. I feel less safe for sure in my Ford.

Just sharing from experience. Sometimes you don't appreciate something until you use it lol.

They also prevent the front air bags from forcing your head through the side window.

I'm not sure side/roll over SRS is the only safety item that is missing compared with newer models. Does any one know wher stability control was added?

wow glad you're alright. That could've been worse. My kids are in the wife's 2013 rav4 90% of the time and it has great safety features. I ended up with a 2006 trd sport that I found in fantastic condition with just 69k miles on it. One owner and it spent most of the days in his garage. Stoked right now LOL

thanks everyone for the help and discussion
