2009 tacoma lifter tick?

    2009 v6 trd sport tacoma 4x4
    Cold air intake
    So I have a 2009 v6 tacoma, it has 180k miles, I noticed there's a ticking sound that is notably louder than standard injector or lifter tick compared to my friends tacoma (2014) and when I started hearing the noise, my mpg dropped considerably from 18 to 13. Any thoughts if it might be lifters or exhast manifold leak? They are rusted and it is an out of state truck.
