Driving home from work and heard a faint grinding noise on my 2006 Prerunner. Knew immediately that I had a wheel bearing issue. So,...I rolled into the local Taco Stealership and asked the Service Dept. what it would cost to replace both wheel bearings (hubs). They quoted me approx. $1000.00. $500 Labor and $500 for parts. I stated no way,..I will do it myself. Mileage on my Taco was about 118k.

So,..I ordered two wheel hub/bearing assemblies from a Toyota parts supplier in Florida. Searched You Tube for tips and installed them myself for about $350.00. That was for both sides because you should change them in pairs in my opinion. Took me about 4 hours to do the job but I did some clean up of the suspension and fender wells while I had my Taco on stands.

I prefer to use certified Toyota parts rather than after market. The wheel bearing never failed totally but it was indeed bad on one side and would have failed eventually. I just giddy when I save that much money and keep my Taco in tip top shape. Was not a difficult job.

I'll DIY when the passenger side goes but when the drivers side went it cost me $800 at a tire shop for the one side so the price they quoted wasn't too bad - I live in Jersey so maybe that was the difference - where R U ?
