I have read other threads about a 3M decal and pinstripe Eraser wheel that you put on a drill. That will probably do it.

You're removing paint protection film? DO NOT use the pinstripe wheel. You're much more likely to trash the paint and make way more work for yourself.

heat gun (or steamer) - pick up an edge with fingernail or plastic razor blade. Do not put too much heat. This will cause the film to tear and / or the adhesive will separate from the film and remain on the car. Pull slowly at a shallow angle. Should be a bit of a forearm workout if you're doing it right. Depending on the type of film, some of those adhesives do not give up easily

Recommend stoners tarminator and a clean microfiber towel to remove the residue

This process also works for the factory paint protection film (small pieces) along the rear fender flares

    Thanks man.
I'm gonna plastidip mine and see how it looks black. Or try a color close to my silver streak. If that fails then I'll work it with some heat

Turtle Wax Adhesive remover at about $3.99, does a great job. I tried sanding, peeling, scraping, nothing worked, then the Turtle Wax adhesive remover from Walmart and all was well.

I may have misunderstood the issue. I was talking about the Tape stripping about 14 inches by 3 inches that is on the rear fender flares. The Turtle wax adhesive remover worked great on that. I think everyone else is discussing a plastic shield on the hood?

I used my ex girlfriends blow dryer.
It took a minute. Huge pita

If i ever installed these things, i would put a good coat of wax first. Maybe it would keep them from taking off the paint?

    Thank you FLCoyote1 !

That helped me immensely. I pulled one of mine off and have been driving around for like 6 months with residue that would not come off and looked horrible. Nothing worked until I tried the turtle wax stuff. Read this post last night and got some this morning and boom, the adhesive is now gone like magic... I did use a plastic scraper after applying the turtle wax which sped the process with no ill effects noticed. That stuff works.

I know this thread is older but maybe you guys will still see it. I have a 2006 Tacoma with that stupid film on the rear fender flares and right behind the driver door. I am doing some long needed upgrades so I can keep my truck for 10 more years and really want those nasty things off. My concern is they have black not only around the edges but spotted throughout the piece. Do you think they will come off clean with the above suggestions or have they been on for so long I will end up with a paint issue? I really like the plastidip above. Curious on your cost for that?

They will come off using the above procedures. The paint may be just a bit darker under the film after that length of time but likely not very noticeable. Not nearly as noticeable if at all, than the spotted film. My suggestion is to remove the old film and replace them with new. It looks like they have certainly done their job protecting that area of your paint. The dealer should still be able to get the film pre-cut or you can go on Ebay and buy 3-M Paint protection film. Best bet if your not familiar with applying this film is to bring them to an accredited body shop for installation or you can search your area for Scotchcal paint protection film install centers. I replace mine every couple of years as needed. My newer 2015 Tacoma has had one side replaced already as I live ongravel roads. Inexpensive to replace...

Thanks for the info! I just completed my first of a few upgrades I plan to do to my truck so I can keep it for many more years. I love it too much to get rid of it. Plus, I haven't even broken 100,000 on it yet.Tacoma before.jpg Tacoma after wheels and tires.jpg

Man, I'm looking for the same rock guards. Mine look just like the ones in robm24's pics. Any info would be greatly appreciated from those that have successfully found the either product number, where to buy the 3m tape for a custom job or any help...

    thanks!
