Do any of you Taco heads recognize this lift setup?
You can see the coil over on right. There is also a strut Mounted to the gusset that connects to upper ball joint. No upper control arm that has movement.
Before I purchased this late model, 2000 Tacoma TRD I noticed the struts on both sides sticking. When driving the truck the sticking releases and makes popping noise.
The seller didn't have a clue. I was able to negotiate $1,000 off asking price because of this issue. Thought it would be an easy fix.
Spent two days researching on Internet. And took Taco to a couple mechanics shops, they also have no clue, don't even realize it is a strut.
I can't seem to find a strut with that large block midway down the body. And all of the 6" lift kits I have researched seem to not come with struts. Instead they have UCA's.
Living in a small town don't want to drive 100 miles to Salt Lake City to go to a lift specialist that probably really isn't for later models.image.jpg

In my 11 years as a mechanic this is the first time I've seen a setup like this, I'm so confused..

    Thanks for the response guys!
Would you think, in the thread, trail master to fab tech, after the swap, running with shocks or struts?
