With windows down that doesn't sound too out of the ordinary. I feel the same way. It's not the reason I started my audio build but it's definitely a positive outcome.

The factory headunit is pretty pitiful. I kept the stock speakers and put in a Kenwood DDX271 and it gets significantly louder now. Overall sound quality is better too.

I also have a small 8" sub, but even with that off it's a huge improvement over stock.

The best thing you can do is if you enjoy your music replace the whole system. I did on my 98, 08,10, and now I'am having my 2015 soon to be done. As you can tell I enjoy my music. To me it is worth taking out the factory system. It just sucks.

My '09 is the same way. The sound is reasonable (far from good) with the windows up, but windows down is pitiful. I just turn the radio off most of the time and enjoy the ticking engine. ;)
