Just thought I would post up for all of you that have had problems with their bed bolts.

    I took my truck in recently for a 40k service ( 12 RC 5peed)
I mentioned that I wanted them to tighten down the front passanger side bed bolt because it had come loose again. I asked for a new bolt and set of washers since that was the second time I was having them look at it and the first time was with the 36k warranty still intact.

Needless to say them hemmed and hawed about it and said that they would have to run that by toyota since this was the second time it had happened and they did not want to just tighten it down again.....
I pushed them on the issue saying that I was not able to fix it my self since I did not have the right tools and that it was only a 20 dollar part.
They insisted that they had to see what they could do since the truck was at that point out of warranty. The dealer ship said they would call me and I left thinking I would just go get the right tools from NAPA and do it my self.
Needless to say a week went by and I got a call from the dealership saying that they were going to put in a whole new inner composite bed and four new bed bolts. Apparently what had happened was that when they had tightened it down last time it came loose because and crushed part of the bed.... hmmmmmm

I suggested new bolts and a bigger washer but they insisted on a whole new inner bed. Needless to say Toyota is taking care of me. They said they would need the truck for several days. I live a hundred miles and two hours from the dealership and said that was not going to work for me unless they gave me a loaner. again more hemming and hawing. I stated that the last time I had to get work done at another dealer I got one for several days no charge because it was a warrenty repair. They said that was fine, and I mentioned that I would need the loaner to be a 4x4 since I live in the west mountains of idaho and the weather can be rather snowy this time of the year.
Needless to say I am running around in a brand new 2014 rav4 and getting a brand new bed.
    Its all about being assertive
Dealer is Preston Toyota in Bosie is anyone is looking for a dealer that still trys to work for its money.

Might be worth being up if your truck is still covered...
    cheers

Just wanted to post an update.

The first bed started to rattle around around 30 k, the inner bed was replaced at 40 k when they could not tighten things down any more.

So far all is well. The truck is currently sitting at 82 k so 42 k on the new inner bed.
I use my truck for collecting fire wood every summer hauling dirt, etc. So it has gotten a lot of use.

No more rattling. I hope that I just got a weird one from the facotry and this one will hold up for the life time of the truck.

    Cheers,
